    Drought: Days Left Before Looming Hosepipe Ban

    Gardeners across much of the country are making the most of their last chance to use a hosepipe before a ban is introduced on Thursday.

    Seven water companies have announced the restrictions after two exceptionally dry winters left many areas in drought.

    It means anyone using a hose for gardening or car washing in affected regions could face a fine of up to ?1,000.

        At the end of the day the water only goes back to the same place anyway, so you're only paying for the use and cleaning of the water.. Kind of like lager in a pub, on loan, you drink it, go to the toilet and give them it back.

                Aye it's one of those things. Thing is I'm on a water meter, so if I don't use a hosepipe I pay less (not that I water the garden anyway) doesn't that make it unfair on people who don't have a meter since they will continue to pay the same?

                When I bought this house Yorkshire Water insisted that all new houses were fitted with a meter. Two years later they wrote and asked me if I wanted to go on the old rateable system instead - speaks volumes for how much they're gaining from people not on meters eh? Needless to say, my meter stayed

                  1) Intend on calling Meat-City-Water and ask how long ban is on for, then work it out that way

                  2) Would have a meter if they put a shit meter in as well.

                  Yes your water bill hoes down, but shit bill goes up.

                      I'm waiting for the heavens to open up for a week or so. Then everyone in the drought area will then be warned about flooding because the water companies can't cope with all the extra water.

                      But then I am spawn of satan

                        Breaking News

                        Hosepipe ban: Guide to what you can and can't do in drought-hit England

                        A hosepipe ban has been imposed on millions of British households after two of the driest winters on record.

                        Thames Water, Southern Water, South East Water, Anglian Water, Sutton and East Surrey, Veolia Central and Veolia South East are bringing in the restrictions that affect about 20 million people.

                        Most of the suppliers expect the ban to last all summer.

                        Householders ignoring the ban face a ?1,000 fine, so it's vital to know exactly what you can and can't do.

                        According to Section 76 Water Industry Act 1991, under which a Temporary Use Ban Notice (a hosepipe ban) is encated, you can't:

                        1) water a ?garden? using a hosepipe;
                        2) clean a private motor-vehicle using a hosepipe;
                        3) water plants on domestic or other non-commercial premises using a hosepipe;
                        4) clean a private leisure boat using a hosepipe;
                        5) fill or maintaining a domestic swimming or paddling pool;
                        6) draw water, using a hosepipe, for domestic recreational use;
                        7) fill or maintain a domestic pond using a hosepipe;
                        8) fill or maintaining an ornamental fountain;
                        9) clean walls, or windows, of domestic premises using a hosepipe;
                        10) clean paths or patios using a hosepipe;
                        11) clean other artificial outdoor surfaces using a hosepipe.

                        This should help you get out of trouble??

                              Hose pipe ban my arse......got a standpipe in my van and a licence from the water authority to connect it to any fire hydrant. If this ~~~~er keeps up I might end up busier than the local smack dealer. Do you think I'll get away with charging the same per litre as petrol and I wonder what they'll charge me with if they catch me selling it....:sly:
