    What a load of Bollox.

The government will be able to monitor the calls, emails, texts and website visits of everyone in the UK under new legislation set to be announced soon.

BBC News - Email and web use 'to be monitored' under new laws
I don't understand the need for this.

People are going to argue that they will only monitor people who they suspect are criminals. Fair enough but they can already do this under the current system. If they can show a magistrate that they have reasonable suspicion of an individual, then currently, the magistrate can approve monitoring of that person's online activities.

All this new law does is remove the requirement for magistrate's permission, and the only possible conclusion is that this means they want to monitor people for whom they have no reasonable suspicion of ill-behaviour.

If they didn't want to spy on average people, they would be satisfied with the current system.

The issue is not with the criminal element that they know about, but the ones that are clever enough not to stick out. If it helps catch some scum and saves innocent lives then they're welcome to read my Text and see what dodgy sites I'm looking at.

          OFF TOPIC:-

Read in the Meat-City paper "The Daily Meat" - GENUINE STORY- would quote it, but more hassle than worth, so i'll do it like this - details have been changed slightly:-

          THE DAILY MEAT

Meat-City man, arrested at home for strange green plants, warrent served, MAN TOWED AWAY TO COP SHOP, officers, later got another search warrent, to look for further strange green plants, but went they went to the address, they found nobody home - so they decided to kick the door in.

          One man remains in custard

Maybe but were do you draw the line? It's a question of civil liberties and a right to privacy.

Surely you can't snoop on everyone for the sake of a few.

Think they might run into problems with RIM (Blackberry). If I remeber correctly the UAE tried to force them to allow monitoring by the state.
The unofficial response was 'F*CK OFF!'
