    Ten-year-old Colombian girl gives birth to baby girl




    A young girl in Colombia, believed to be just 10 years old, arrived at a hospital and gave birth without any advance care, shocking many in that country and around the world.

    While details of the story are sketchy, the girl reportedly came into a local hospital profusely bleeding and in enormous pain, Univision?s Primer Impacto reported.

    According to the report, she gave birth to a 51/2-pound baby. The delivery was the first time she had seen a doctor during her pregnancy.

                              I believe she (Myra Gale Brown) was actually 13 at the time (he was 22). Apparently marriage at such a young age was quite common in the particular state they resided. She was this third wife, having married the first whilst he himself was just 14.

                              Myra was his first cousin once removed - again this kind of pairing was common in America's deep south.

                              Its interesting to see the cultural differences present in even relatively short distances. In Washington or New York such relationships would be taboo yet in the rural southern states such things were (and still are to some extent) extremely common.

                                  It's just been in our National papers about forced marriages taking place with 5 year olds. What kind of sick people could sanction this ?

                                      Whilst I personally find forced marriages repugnant dont confuse this kind of marriage with sex. In cultures that follow this kind of practice any form of sexual contact with a pre-menstrual female would usually not be tolerated.
