Natwest/RSB customers can now withdraw cash wth mobile phone

    here's how it works

install the natwest/RBS app on your mobile
    Natwest
    RSB
    (also available on iphone)
then if you leave the house without you bank cards or if there lost or stolen, or a child/partner get stuck somewhere and need money urgently,
you can send a request for up to ?100 and the bank send you a 6 digit number to your app, you then have up to 3 hours to get to a natwest/RBS/tesco cash machine to use the number and get your cash, or text the number to a loved one's phone so they can get the money.

the app was updated yesterday to allow this new service, and it's free.

I don't understand that. Doesn't make sense. Losing your phone isn't a problem.

im getting tempted to go back to RBS from Lloyds as i got an email from them saying they are scrapping the ?30 'default notice fee' that they charge you if you dont have enough money in your bank for a direct debit or standing order. and now this mobile thing sounds quite good to have access to as well.

ye, I got an email from natwest yesterday telling me that, and no more charges for using debit card and you can now access your money and balance from a post office for free.

this is all done at the expence of basic account holders.ie people on low incomes ie dwp payments into an account, the Peoples Bank Of Scotland as i call it,PBS.
stopped basic customers from using link cash machines last october.because it was costing the bank .24p per withdrawal.so thousands of customers must now travel to a town or city to get cash, why did the bank just not say we will have to charge you .24p for any cash machine withdrawals, instead of causing a lot of hardship for basic customers.myself if i want to say withdraw ?20 to tide me over,i have to pay ?3.40 bus fares just to get to the cash machine.

Training on how to beat secure password algorithms and then apply that to random people you mug and who might just happen to have a phone with a money withdrawal code on it?

I have a friend who has been caught out by this.

Not one of SJ's 'friends'. She hardly leaves the house, shops online & I get everything else for her. At the moment I carry her Debit Card with me, when she needs something I use her card to pay for it. All due to her not being able to withdraw cash from any of her local ATM's.

This app could mean she only needs to send a message with what she wants & a code for the ATM. I'd be a lot happier, it will save me dropping her card off on the rare times that she does go out.

spot on, my cash card only requires a 4 digit pin,
where as my banking app requires an 8 digit pin, and it only gives you two attempts to get the right number before it freeze's the app,
plus I have "lookout" on my phone, which enables me to lock and wipe my phone remotely if it disappears.

@ray I pay ?12.50 a month for my account so it's not at the expense of others, if your unhappy with your bank you can always move to another, I know most of the patients I look after have a HSBC basic account for there benefit payments and they don't charge for using cash machines, and they allow direct debts etc.

its the people with PBS on benefits and pensions who can only get a basic account, because on benefits that are suffering,to change bank, have to notify DWP they say can take 4 to 12 weeks to change banks, then we have to sort out direct debits with likes of virgin, gas, electric,tv license, the list goes on,its not that easy for a pensioner or someone with disability to do.
