    Assange seeks political asylum

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has sought political asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy in London after failing in his bid to avoid extradition to Sweden to face sex crime allegations.

The 40-year-old Australian is currently inside the building in Knightsbridge, having gone there in the afternoon and requested asylum under the United Nations Human Rights Declaration.

Come to think about asylum its the oldest trick in the book, now he is in the Embassy who is watching the back door!!!!!!!!!!!

The Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, UK stood for her when she was under house arrest for years and sanctioned Burma govt under the human rights?..

We are now in the similar situation, Julian Assange has been in house arrest in UK when he is not been charged for the offence and our legal system has failed him under the human rights of free speech!!!!!

Free speech is not a human right.

Lets not forget that he is accused of sex crimes. You were all for the american who killed the peado who attacked his daughter.

You seem to change sides quicker than an Italian government during armed conflict.

That?s what I wanted to hear from some 1, accused of sex crimes and not charged, what a lot of bullocks.

I always believed in free speech not any more?I am glad this scenario has come out, now we know were we stand?..

In every country when a person is accused there is an evidence of crime, and the two accused women have not been photographs or have come forward in any news papers to prove to the world that they were rapped.

UK is not the third world country lets see the evidence before you accused the offender?

They just want him to be extradition to Sweden to face sex crime allegation and they have no evidence to prove in the justice system which has let Assange down.

Julian Assange decided to seek political asylum in the Ecuadorean Embassy in London because he felt abandoned by the Australian government, WikiLeaks insiders say.

Assange's closest confidants say they were surprised by his move but have no doubt that it was triggered by a letter from Attorney-General Nicola Roxon that Assange's lawyers describe as an "Australian declaration of abandonment".

In the letter, to one of Mr Assange's legal representatives, Australian human rights lawyer Jennifer Robinson, Ms Roxon made it clear that Australia would not seek to involve itself in any international exchanges about his future.

At the end of the day, in Sweden he is wanted for a sex crime, they've asked for his extradition and it's looking like it would be granted, just as the UK would expect the same if someone was hiding in Sweden and wanted in the UK.

However the risk here is that he is going to be extradited to Sweden and then the US may ask for him to be extradition to the US for releasing documents, and as I understand it could face the death penalty. Therein lies the problem, we are seeking assurance from Jordan (is it) that the nutty hate immam Abu Qatada would not be extradited for the same reason to their country, in that he might be sentenced to death.

It would appear that because the US are being friendly to us (yeah right) that we should extradite Julian to Sweden who will almost certainly pack him off to the US. That would be the US who seek more assurances before extraditing a US citizen - and normally refuse.

            It's a joke.

edit: Just read we can't extradite Abu becaase evidence gained during torture might be used in court, my mistake

Doesn't alter the fact that Julian is wanted in Sweden, and if that is why Sweden want him then that should be done, however Sweden should give assurance that they will not extradite Julian to a country where the death penalty can be used. Not that I support him, he's a prat.

I see. So our legal system is based on what is printed in the tabloids, not what is presented in court.

So if you met a 6'4" welsh rugby player in a pub, got talking, then he ass raped you like a dead sheep. You would be smiling for the cameras & selling your story?
Personally I'd be avoiding the ~~~~ers. There is an emotion called shame you know.

And I'm sure the Swedish justice system has seen enough evidence that they want him returned to answer the allegations. Just because they don't print every detail for you to jack off to, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

No offence to any welsh rugby players. It's just that I still can't sit down without whimpering

The bible refers to several women and Roman soldiers being present at the crucifixion.

Outside the local area, I don't really think anybody knew or cared about it tbh.

Sadly this is not about the sexual assault of the 2 Swedish women. This is a politically motivated crusade by the US Government due to the continuing embarrassment caused by the wikileaks site and founder.

Lest we all forget that the US government is now the world government, and have far reaching powers in any country. Gary McKinnon is another prime example of the US political crusade that continues.

Yes the Swedish government is requesting extradition, but the crime that Assange is accused of, is not even punishable under Swedish law. As soon as he steps foot in Sweden, he will be extradited to the US, where he will be tried under US Laws, and punished for his role in the continued leaks of sensitive information.

Kim dotcom is another victim of the far reaching powers of the US government, who have seized items that they have no jurisdiction and have refused to return them, or the assets that they have seized.

It is time for us the people to stand up and start saying NO, to this continued oppression then maybe the world would be a better place!

Also lets not bring religion into this arguement. Jesus might of been a real person, but the reasons he was killed will never be clear, so lets not muddy the waters with some stupid story that no one can prove!!!
