    More delightful news from Cameron

I know you won't have missed it all the same.....

Mr Cameron's speech is being seen as an attempt to reconnect with disgruntled Tory backbenchers who have accused him of allowing the Liberal Democrats to water down traditional party values.

    Other ideas raised included:

Out-of-work benefits linked to wages rather than inflation
A cap on the amount people can earn while still in a council house
Reduce benefits people get over time
Cut the current ?20,000 housing benefit limit
Stopping the out of work being better off by having children
Consider paying some benefits "in kind" rather than in cash
Expecting parents on income support to prepare for work while children have free nursery care
Expecting people on benefits to gain basic numeracy and literacy skills
Getting the physically able to do full-time community work after a period out of work
Sickness benefit claimants should take steps to improve their health

So if you have cancer, or have had your legs amputated, take steps to improve your health (grow new legs???) or see your benefits cut!

1980's all over again, can't wait for community charge... Only having a go at the single people now because they haven't found a war to send them to as has happened previously at times of high unemployment and depression.

They go for the easy targets, those who cannot defend themselves and where they can just sweep the changes through without losing friends who will employ them after they've been kicked out. All of them are the same, just that I find the Tories are far more underhanded at it.

That's brilliant news, but can you expalin more about the 'single person' thing please.

I'm single, Tracy Barlow is married in real life, and the bird in the parts place i stalk has friends that have been DEEPLY offended by others, so that's stuffed me for a while.

A good old fashioned trench war used to sort this sort of thing out, 1930's high unemployment, recession, have a war. 1910 high unemployment, recession, have a war. Soon get rid of unemployment in the 18 to 30(ish) year old bracket. Seems to cure most unemployment problems around the world and also makes the winning governments popular.

Didn't hurt Maggie in 1982 to withdraw the patrols around the Falklands, Argentinians invade, sent our forces out to fight and get them back, Maggie gets re-elected *shrug*

Desert Shield,Iraq Part 1, was Maggie/John Major when Saddam invaded Kuwait - ended 1995 before Blair was elected, would be good to get that right at least. For the rest yes he was, perhaps he was trying to get re-elected, worked for George W Bush.

You have to remember though that it was Britain who created Iraq in 1932, so historically speaking it's our ~~~~ up. As for Afghanistan Britain invaded so many times and failed, we never learn by 'our' mistakes.

It's never so cut and dried as people think.

                    Since it's you

History of Iraq - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ottoman rule ended with World War I, and Iraq came to be administered by the British Empire until the establishment of the Kingdom of Iraq in 1932.
