    Driving in France

Driving in France just became more expensive, and strange...

A new law has come into force in France making it compulsory for drivers to carry a breathalyser kit in their vehicles or risk an on-the-spot fine.

It is the latest move by the government aimed at bringing down the number of road deaths caused by alcohol.

All motorists must also have with them a high-visibility safety vest and a warning triangle.

BBC News - France orders breathalyser for motorists

Best to carry 2. Can almost see it now, stop you, breathalyse you, then fine you for not having one they can breathalyse you with again.

Never seen a place like it.

Surely it should be compulsory to carry a few cheeky bottles of Beaujolais as well. Along with a few onions and garlic string?

Not read the link, but I was aware of this.

But you forgot that you also have to carry a full set of spare bulbs. No lighty, no drivey.

Only HID Xenons & LED rear lights are excluded from this as they are classes as non-user servicable.

Yeah weird country eh? The companies that make all of those things must be French companies. The interesting part of all this is if you only carry one spare set of bulbs or breathalyser and have to use it, can they then say you're breaking the law and give you an on the spot fine for not having 1 available. Also how do they know you haven't had the one you have with you calibrated in such a way as to not register that you're totally rat a$$sed.

The worst part of driving in France is have French Drivers on the road !! and bloody French pedestrians.
If there weren't any French in France it wouldn't be too bad apart from all the other foreigners there.

in america if i remeber correctly they have a breatherlizer sytem installed to the car so u cant drive it when ur pissed

More states are beginning to require in car breathalizers for people convicted of multiple DUI or DWIs. Missouri has recently passed such a mandatory requirement for second offenders. However, personal breathalyzers for automobiles may be appropriate for personal use as well. Many parents, businesses, or even school districts may be benefit from private breathalyzers that only enable a vehicle to run once the breathalyzer receives a sample with alcohol content below that set in the machine.
