As someone who spent 24 years in the Army I'm actually in support of the cuts but only if we prepare a real defence force. We've been used as political pawns for too long.
Cut the Army to about 40,000 but train them to be the nastiest and meanest bunch of killers there is. Sign off from the Geneva convention as currently it's only the West that tends to follow most of it anyway.
Warn any potential enemy that if they think of messing with us we'll let them loose with permission to do the most damage they can to those in charge of the Countries or groups that attack us. A few top politicians etc in certain countries getting their parts rammed down their throats whilst still alive may deter others from trying it on.Comment

Good job you're a flying pig, I just saw one float past when I read the above
I believe the last such cuts to the Navy were done by Margaret Thatcher, which led the Argentinians believing that the Falklands were up for grabs. Needless to say they weren't and it won her another term in office.
