RUNDOWN foreign jails are to get makeovers paid for by the British taxpayer in a bid to cut the number of overseas prisoners doing time here.

The Government is shelling out ?3million to pay for improvements to jails overseas, including Jamaica and Nigeria.

And ministers hope that the move will see many more foreign prisoners being deported to serve their sentences back home.

British jails currently house lags from more than 150 countries.

The cost to the taxpayer of each inmate has been calculated at almost ?40,000 a year.

Jamaica tops the list for foreign prisoners, with almost 1,000 taking up space in UK jails. Meanwhile Irish, Nigerian and Polish inmates make up a further 2,000 more.

Migrationwatch chairman Sir Andrew Green said: To some extent, this is the inevitable legacy of the mass immigration of 3.5million people under Labour.

The resources necessary to tackle the rising number of foreign prisoners have not been available.

Prisons Minister Crispin Blunt said: We believe wherever possible, foreign national prisoners should serve their sentences in their own country.

Not only will it save money for the UK, it will also mean that they will be closer to family and friends................

Would one be wright in thinking if you on Vacation in Europe and you go faulty, see a hospital, the Inglish NHS get sent a bill?

Then why do they not send the country the import is from a HUGH bill for the storage costs?

Shame they can't 'freeze' body's take them out of service for x years, then stick in a crate, and post beack to where ever.

If this does happen then some kind perment non removable 'tracking' device should be installed to ALL the prinsoners, so if they do a runner, or more like fiind a corrupt jailer, and scarper, they can be returned
