Jail Sentences for sharing Sly TV

TWO MEN who admitted defrauding BSkyB out of ?10,000 with a card network- sharing scam have both received eight-month suspended prison sentences.

Graham Hartley, 32, of Victoria Street, Torpoint, and 40-year-old Adam White, of Ferry Road, Plymouth were also ordered to do 180 hours of unpaid community work.

Jo Martin, for the prosecution, told Truro Crown Court on Friday that the fraud involved a network run from Hartley's home to provide 'Dream Box' decoders, through which cheap satellite television could be obtained.

It had started with Hartley offering to assist his parents, but then snowballed to include friends, family and friends of friends.

It was estimated that in an eight-month period the loss to BSkyB amounted to ?10,000.

Judge Graham Cottle said the fraud was significant enough that the court needed to send out a message that people involved might well receive an immediate custodial sentence.

In mitigation, the court heard that the defendants were responsible, working, family men, and Judge Cottle imposed no financial penalty because of their relatively straitened circumstances.

The prison sentences were suspended for two years.

I agree.... Sharing you own sub with yourself is not illegal, and will never be proved so in court - IMHO. So you can legitimately share your sub with yourself i.e. one sub shared around your house with CCcam regardless of it being a Sly sub.

This guy seems like he was on delivering a commercial server rather than a domestic one.

2) How can they be defrauding Sly out of ?10K?

Sake of argument it was 10 people, them 10 people are too tight to
pay for their own Sly TV - so if the Sly man came round offering it, they would have told him to fuchushs off.

3) Yes agree with SJ - it money they would n't have got any way.

4) OFF TOPIC:-

I did a side job, 'some time ago' - took a week off work, surprise surprise
got found out.

Didn't matter because it was either me on the side at ?200 a pop x 6 . And got LOADS of stuff free

OR it was XXXXX and XXXXX LTD, from XXXXX at ?40+VAT per hour, 5 days a week, + travel and/or bordings.

So in fact M-H-M didn't acutally loose out, would never have had the job anyway.
