    Sunday trading restrictions must go

It?s ridiculous to restrict Sunday opening hours when the economy is so weak.

During the Olympics and Paralympics, Sunday trading laws were suspended in England and Wales, meaning shops bigger than 280square metres could open for more than six hours. But that comes to an end after this weekend.

Yet look at why the restrictions were lifted during the Games in the first place ? George Osborne said: "When millions of visitors come to Britain... we don't want to hang up a ?closed for business? sign.?

Why, in times of high unemployment and struggling high street retail are we ever hanging up a ?closed for business? sign?

It?s a joke, most of the shops are closed for years, you want to boos spending cut parking costs and public transport costs....

If I go to town it cost me at least ?10 in buss fair or parking and petrol that ?10 that could be in someones till.....

Shops have been open up here in civilisation 7 days a week for a while. Current forecasts for the Olympics has shown a drop in spending as opposed to the expected increase. The local shops will be the ones to suffer if they do away with the restrictions and also the workers will suffer as the stores will just class Sunday as a normal working day so the worker won't get any more money.

The good news though if you hate your wife and she works in a large store you may get rid of her for 7 days a week.

There's already millions of people who have to work Sundays as a normal working day,
so why should shop workers get any preferential treatment.

All shops should be closed all day on Sundays. And bring back half day closing on a Wednesday. If people are so dumb to not think ahead one day tough.

Allowing normal opening hours on a sunday won't help anyone.

People only have so much money to spend, and only need so many products. Staying open those extra few hours will only move money taken on a monday to the sunday. The weekly takings will be the same.

The difference will be the extra money needed to pay staff wages, tax & running costs.

If there are any winners in this idea, it won't be your local shop.

So what about the thick people that work night shifts, all the Polish in the potato factorys, where do they get their Polish Breda etc from.

What about those with kids that run out of diapers late at night, or like mentioned GMB finds he only has 98% of beer stocks remaiiing.

most large chains want to stay open 24/7 apart from xmas day
as the extra over costs are minimal as lighting etc is on for security and shelf stacking etc

i do agree with you that you only have so much money to spend but i'd like to be able to spend it at 2 on a sunday morning if the wish so happens to take me on the way home from a night club!!

all the larger stores have made it clear they want to stay open and as for the local stores ...put your prices down or go out of business..... simples

The Trade Unions fought for years to get a five day working week so that the ordinary working man was not treated like a slave.
Today we are throwing away all the rights an ordinary working man fought for and will soon be returning to work house conditions and tugging forelocks to the master.

It's been like this for years if your a health care worker, even the NHS don't pay shift allowances for sunday working, and haven't for a long time, and they have some of the most powerful unions, I don't hear them stamping there feet for better working conditions, do you.

are these the same trade unions that try to bring the country to its knees at every possibility ,the same trade unions that pay its senior staff hundreds of thousands of pounds a year along with hundreds of hangers on on 50/60/70k a year while their members are struggling !!!!.
the same unions that get their members to strike and lose money while they still get paid from the union dues(i.e them ~~~~ers dont lose money )

as for rights unless you are a illegal immigrant..asylum seeker...job shy poncing get....someone pretending to be ill your rights where sold down the river to europe years ago.

i dont believe that any body should be coerced after a weeks work to have to work at weekends!!!!
i do believe that shops and its worker should have the option to open if they wish to

as for being treated like a slave get a grip on reality and realise how good we still have it in this country (even though europe are trying to ~~~~ it up )

p.s. i actually believe the idea of trade unions are good and have been a member of one for over 25 years...that aside most are just left wing nutters with out a grip on reality !!!
