Jimmy Savile: Ex-pop star Gary Glitter arrested by police

Former pop star Gary Glitter has been arrested on suspicion of sex offences by police investigating Jimmy Savile abuse claims.

He has been taken from his home into custody at a London police station.

Glitter, 68, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was jailed in Vietnam in 2006 for child sex offences.

Police are investigating allegations the late TV presenter Savile sexually abused some 300 young people over a 40-year period.

Met Police confirmed officers from Operation Yewtree had "arrested a man in his 60s in connection with the investigation".

"The man, from London, was arrested at approximately 0715 on suspicion of sexual offences. The individual falls under the strand of the investigation we have termed 'Savile and others'."

Scotland Yard has said it is following about 400 lines of inquiry as part of the operation - which is looking into claims Savile, who died last year aged 84, abused hundreds of young girls and some boys.

Police described former BBC DJ Savile as a "predatory sex offender".


Karin Ward - a former pupil at Duncroft approved school for girls in Surrey - told the BBC she had once seen singer Glitter having sex with a schoolgirl in Savile's dressing room at the BBC. Glitter has denied the allegations.

"It should be independent because there are big lessons to be learned here, not just for the BBC, although the epicentre of it was at the BBC."

Savile is also alleged to have carried out abuse at a number of institutions, such as the high security psychiatric hospital Broadmoor, Stoke Mandeville Hospital and Leeds General Infirmary.

As stated, its hardly a suprise that Glitter has been arrested and frankly a think Glitter has a lot more skeletons in his closet.
The Savile case really confuses me and a still have a few things that am struggling to understand.!
A watched the documentary and time after time people were saying that they couldn't do anything about it, am not talking about the victims am talking about people who saw things.
A can't remember names but there was one guy who was a fellow DJ and he said he was in his early 20s when he witnessed Savile touching up a young girl.
He said he couldn't do anything as he was at the start of his career and Jimmy was a well known and respected celebrity!!!!!
Are you f****** kidding me,, if i had walked into that room and saw this a would have instructed the young girl to leave the room and phone the police, by the time it took the police to arrive a can assure you that Savile would know what his left bollock tasted like..

Think about it, if you saw this with your own eyes are you honestly saying you could refrain from not beating the living crap out of this beast.?
Am not saying that Savile is innocent, the information given out so far would state otherwise, a just can't believe that he could do this for his entire career and never get nailed for it..

A don't envy the investigation the police have to take, the situation has went from burying a national treasure to investigating a serious sex offender who will remain silent..
Am not being sexist but a can understand why the females who witnessed it would keep quiet, back then if a rape case was reported it was usually greeted with a reply of ,"well the bitch probably deserved it" ,that was the police in the 70s but the guys who saw it have "no" excuse for not dealing with it.

Like every thing else in this country the people at the bottom some who done minor misdemeanors are always prosecuted but the ones near the top often get away with it. From what I have read but that might be wrong freddie Star is supposed to have groped a girl not in the same league as saville or glitter,but still wrong.
Most of us know what saville did was wrong but I think the most evil people in all this are all the people who knew this was going on but kept quiet
the police who knew about him but had to drop the case because saville had the parents theaten by top barristers to drop the case or face ruin when saville won the case in court
