Parking Ticket issued to a blood donation van

The Northern Ireland Roads Service is under increasing pressure to withdraw a parking ticket issued to a blood donation van outside a donation centre.

Outraged donors and politicians have challenged the parking fine which was imposed by a traffic warden in Downpatrick as Blood Transfusion staff collected donations.

While staff were in the centre on Monday evening they overran a one-hour parking restriction and their van was slapped with a ticket.

They had been parking in the same spot every four months for 15 years without incident, while they used the adjacent church hall in Church Avenue where there is very limited parking.

?I think this is completely outrageous and I am challenging it with the Department for Regional Development. The Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service provides a very important service,? said South Down MLA John McCallister (below).

The UUP man added: ?Where will it all stop? Will they be issuing fines to the Ambulance Service, Fire Service or police even if they have a legitimate reason to park their vehicles there??

what's the problem with the ticket?
the van was parked illegally was it not?

take the fine out of the drivers wages.
he was responsible for the van, and should have known the restrictions in that area!

If it aint broke, don't fix it!
If its broke, fix it and use it again!
If it proper broke, use it for something else!

It's simple, it's called cop on, something thats sadly lacking with some of these idiot wardens

You've gotta cut them a little slack. The van could easily have been deliverying emergency blood and just dumped the van in an illegal place? There's always usually an explanation.

Granted, if it was just the driver being incompetent then the fine should be, as already suggested, removed from his wages

common sense springs to mind, if they had been parking here three times a year for 15yrs, thats a possible 45 parking tickets, sack the warden for incompetence...

The way I look at it, if the Warden and there family need blood transfusing tell them we haven?t got enough because of you issuing parking tickets full stop.

            Let them die slowly?.

it took over one hour to deliver that blood, thats more than an armful.
hit the driver with 45 parking tickets for the previous fifteen years.

More likely you'll find other countries get their blood from us. A large proportion of donated blood is sold on and not just used for our Health Service. They're a business like anyone else and should obey the rules. No parking is enforced for a reason. If the driver doesn't know the rules of the land find another job.

traffic wardens are a law all to them self. if it was one of their mates he would have turned a blind eye.

Traffic wardens around here ain't too bad.

We get a 10 minute grace period before a valid parking sticker is needed. And they hardly ever show up.

But this can also be a curse. Parking is terrible. We have a Keep Clear area for access to our garage. The amount of people who just park in it & bugger off is unbelievable.

What I need is a forklift to move them into a double yellow area.

But I side with the traffic warden on this story. A transfusion wagon is not an emergency vehicle.
