Jaguar and Land Rovers to be built for first time in China under 'milestone' ?1billion deal to accelerate global sales
Jaguars and Land Rovers are to be built in China for the first time ever following the announcement today of a 'milestone' ?1billion joint-venture deal.
It means the UK firm's luxury limousines and off-roaders will be built inside the booming capitalist-loving communist country that is now officially the world's biggest car-market ? just months after JLR caused a storm there with a Victoria Beckham-designed 'baby' 4X4.
The landmark agreement between the British luxury car-maker and China's sixth largest car-manufacturer Chery was announced as executives from the two firms laid the foundations for the new Chinese factory that will build them.
Jaguar Land Rover employs 25,000 people in the UK with factories at Castle Bromwich and Solihull in Birmingham, Halewood on Merseyside, as well as design and engineering centres in Coventry and at Gaydon in Warwickshire.
It is owned by Indian industrial giant TATA and already assembles some Land Rover Freelander 4X4s in India with more models set to follow
