West Brom star Liam Ridgewell has apologised after being photographed wiping his bum with ?20 notes.

The defender was pictured using the cash to, ahem, help him in his ablutions in a bathroom whose floor was covered in bundles of ?20 notes.

The photograph was leaked to The Sun by a fan who had somehow got hold of the picture, and Ridgewell has said sorry to anyone he might have offended.

"The photo was taken in the privacy of my home around eight months ago as a joke to wind up a mate, who I had just won a personal bet with," the former Birmingham star explained to The Sun.

The 28-year-old - who earns ?20,000-a-week with the high-flying Midlands club - was clearly mortified about his cheeky prank getting a far wider audience than intended, particularly given the paper's highly-inflammatory report about how his wages equate to the average annual salary in the Birmingham area.

"I only intended him to see the photo but now it's public, I can understand how it will be viewed. I am sorry for any offence it causes," he added.
The Sun do not seem inclined to accept his apology: the headline on their story labels Ridgewell "The vilest footballer in Britain".

That's what gets right on my t***, this rag prints crap everyday and yet still sells millions of copies usually to people who think Jeremy Kyle is a deep and edgy guy.
A think most major sports stars wages are obscene but if clubs are willing to pay it then a wouldn't say no.
This lad hasn't done anything we wouldn't with that kinda cash, you would go nuts.

People say money wouldn't change them but of course it would, a can assure you a would instantly quit my job, a would have no problem adapting to a life of a millionaire.
A would spit at tramps and look down at them as i would at a rabid dog, i would constantly post my interest earnings on DK on a weekly basis.

totally agree mate, id be the same, all this faux outrage at what footballers earn gets on my tits.
They spout shite about people starving in the world and footballers getting obscene amounts. when the truth is, theyre jealous and bitter that they havent got the talents that these lads have and people dont want to watch them at work.
I know i havent got the talent, but i dont begrudge any footballer earning what they earn, for me, that one obafemi martins goal in the league cup final was worth all the money the players got paid combined..

Anyway i would have thought that a ?20 note would be a bit sharp to wipe your arse with,maybe a coin would be a better tool to use,a ?2 coin with a scooping motion and a deft flick of the wrist could in fact be better...
