Cameron: Britain 'On Right Track' For 2013

Cameron: Britain 'On Right Track' For 2013 - Yahoo! News UK

David Cameron has used his New Year's message to declare that Britain is "heading in the right direction" on all the big issues and can look forward to 2013 with "realism and optimism".

In a video address, the Prime Minister acknowledged 2012 was "tough", with many families finding it difficult to make ends meet - and admitted he had "no quick fixes" to the UK's economic problems.

But he cited evidence of "real progress" on cutting the state deficit, reforming welfare and improving school standards, which he said was preparing Britain to succeed in the "global race" with emerging economic giants like China and India for the jobs and opportunities of the future.

Mr Cameron said that his administration was "a Government in a hurry" which would not give in to pressure to slow the pace of deficit reduction or rein in reforms to welfare and education.

"This is my message to the country at the start of 2013," said the Prime Minister. "We can look to the future with realism and optimism.

"Realism, because you can't cure problems that were decades in the making overnight. There are no quick fixes and I wouldn't claim otherwise.

"But we can be optimistic too because we are making tangible progress. We are doing what's right for our country and what's best for our children's future."

Insisting that "we are on the right track", Mr Cameron said: "On all the big issues that matter to Britain, we are heading in the right direction and I have the evidence to prove it."

The deficit is forecast to be a quarter smaller at the New Year than it was when the coalition Government came to office. There are almost half a million more people in work, and more than 1,000 new academy schools have opened, said Mr Cameron.

And he hailed moves to take millions of low-paid workers out of income tax, freeze council tax bills and deliver the largest-ever increase in the state pension.

Decades, and there was everyone thinking that the Labour government (who were only in power for just over a decade) caused the problems. He can't be blaming the government before that surely?

"There are almost half a million more people in work, and more than 1,000 new academy schools have opened, said Mr Cameron."

The half million being immigrants, probably 3/4 of a million with 1/4 being made unemployed. How many people have been made unemployed since 2010. The schools being states schools that were closed down, or rebuilt using PFI's, so in reality no schools but we changed their names so it looks like we have created some new schools. I do wonder how many "new" schools have really been opened as opposed to those being closed.

No substance to his speech at all. As expected he could hardly go with "you're all going down the pan, and we'll look after ourselves and friends"

Most British people want to see Britain need new jobs, better housing, come out of EU, and stop the immigration by 50% at list?.

He said he is building new schools that are education, how are new schools going to change the economy???

As I wrote earlier, there have probably been no new schools built, all they have done is changed the name of existing schools and how they are funded, nothing more - but it looks good when he says it and no-one thinks about it. 1000 new schools? so where are they, none built in my city, and I'd have thought I'd have seen them if they did, wouldn't you? Already conned most of the public with that one (the ones that don't think "where are the new schools then?") easy eh. His words were "and more than 1,000 new academy schools have opened" not the words "and more than 1,000 new academy schools have been built".... slight difference.

Higher education standards generally lead t a more educated workforce, in 16 years anyway. However that may backfire on them, since higher educated people expect more in the way of remuneration - but saying in makes people think he's thinking of the future, looking after their kids etc. People have short memories and he won't be around when/if they do remember.

Coming out of the EU will make our goods (do we still have any manufacturing anyway?) more expensive to sell in Europe, so how will that help? and probably more expensive to buy from Europe.

            1) Just remind me what your orginal defualt software and location
settings are? (Stay as long as you like your good)

            2) Well if we have skools then the next generation of brats will be
fully programmed, good spelling, good math, able to speak
            fluant polish, swed and frogench.

            BUT

Having said that there is a skool near to me, i went to the dentist
the other week, so the moms were taking their brats to the skool.

99% sure did NOT hear ONE Inglish voice (all non inglish)

So we pay to programe these imported brats - that will claim a stake as they have been bred here - then they **** off leaving us with the next genration of fat unempolyed people who can't read or write.

The only realism I see is that Cameron is a rich Tory and so are his chums. He has absolutely no idea how tough it is out there for the ordinary working and not working man and furthermore he doesn't give a shit anyway. Go back to chequers Mr Cameron and keep on trying to pull the wool over my eyes.

                          I liked this part.......

And he hailed moves to take millions of low-paid workers out of income tax
The normal person will think, "he increased the income tax level".

But my mind was screaming something else..... "He made them unemployed when the small businesses they worked for lost access to business grants."

A small business needs a grant to develop a new way to produce curb stones. They are cheaper to produce & save pedestrian lives by stopping vehicles mounting the pavement. This could save the building industry & local councils millions each year.

At the same time, a multi billion pound company wants to make a new type of hair gel that doubles as an anal lubricant. They have all the in-house funding they need, but apply for a grant anyway.

The multi billion pound company gets the grant.

Think that's mad? That's what's happening to small businesses every day. Big companies that don't need the money are given development grants at the cost of the small businesses.
