    ?2 lottery ticket

It has just come to my attention that Camelot is to up the price of a lottery ticket to ?2 in the autumn of 2013 with prize restructuring to benifit no one but Camelot. 100% price rise makes for depressing reading so much so I'm thinking of kicking my 3 line habit like I did with the euro.

and the minimum prize is going up to ?25, so if you get 3 numbers, it represents a better return on your money than a tenner for a pound

                        Changes are outlined here

It does seem like they're taking more from the middle prizes though I note this:

"* As is currently the case, the prize for matching 3 numbers will remain fixed. However, in exceptional circumstances, if the available Prize Fund is not enough to pay every Match 3 winning entry in a Lotto draw, then the prizes paid out will be shared equally between all winning entries and may therefore be less than stated (in the 18 years of the current Lotto game we have never had to invoke this change)."

basically on draws where there is excess money they gain, but where there isn't excess money the prize winners lose out. Keeps the profits of Camelot pretty constant. Although they're now having a raffle similar to the Euros.

Despite the cost of living, it's still very popular.

It will be interesting to see how many people still buy a lottery ticket.. After all no one puts the lottery on to win a tenner or ?25 even..its the jackpot most people play to win and if its double the cost a lot of people just might not bother as its millions to one anyway to win.

They probably work on percentages tbh. If less than 50% drop out then they'll still have the same amount coming in. After all they're in it to make money, something which some people tend to forget, they aren't in it to run the lottery for free and give money away.
