If you have a UK paper licence then it is valid until you are 70.
But if you change address or lose your licence then you will have to get the new photo licence which is going to cost you ?20 and the hassle of all the proof of identity.
Also remember it is an offence not to have an up to date licence and that includes all the details being up to date so if you have moved address and not renewed your paper licence then you are breaking the law.

Just to point out. If you're under 25 (I think), you have to update your license every 5 years.

shame you feel that way m8

i would personnally like to thank you for the positive way you have contributed to dk,i have asked myself the same question about certain members who post ignorant, insensitive and sometime downright inflammatry comments without retribution from the mods whilst others get banned for far less,we certainly have a hardcore of teflon coated animal farm members.

and before the axe is wielded to my own account can i at least request some one to read my reply post to a prominent members comment about a coach full of school childrens deaths in a accident and tell me my comments are not valid.

i do hope we have not seen the last of you friend, the mindless minority should not be allowed to ruin for the rest of us the pleasure of contributing members and i hope your son gets the best care possible.

This thread was all about licence, you can a point on licence only when some people starts pointing other matter and swearing to fellow members that shows you are not fit to make comments.

We do respect people with good sense who have replied in good faith and I am sorry to hear the bad news about your son with epilepsy and we all hope for him for a speedy recovery.

I have read they want to abolish the paper licence by 2033 and the paper counterpart of the photocard by 2015.

Tshirtman I do hope you reconsider mate, I think you have been a credit to the forum and I know the ebook section would not be the place it is without your hard work and input. Whatever you do thank you for helping me and numerous other members, and good luck with the wee barra.

I did read somewhere that they're going to phase out paper licenses soon and you will *have* to exchange it for a plastic one no choice, no date yet.

                    Found it

                    http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/c...h-20-cost.html

What about the old style paper licences?

The AA website states that if you still have a paper driving licence you don't have to worry about ten yearly updates, though you must still notify DVLA of name or address changes.

It also says that parliament has given powers to recall all paper licences so the more secure photo card licences will be held by everyone, but no date has been set for this, and the Government is well aware that it would be controversial to make everyone buy a new licence.

The AA has said that if the government insists on everyone changing, it should phase in such a move and subsidise the cost.

                      Quite right.

How much is your internet costing you?

(that question makes about as much sense as yours btw)
