i live right next to the bloke, and i think he is a class person, one of the best English footballers ever , and he has a great personality, also has a heart of gold.

i really feel sorry for him, as its a terrible illness that not many people will understand, its easy to call him an idiot for drinking .

I pray he beats this .

ive just watched that and turned off at 1min 46 secs. he should never have been allowed to do that interview. wtf was that terry bloke thinking?? how thin does paul look - its devastating to see him in that condition.

its heartbreaking to read and see in the papers. i was nearly in tears. his prob i think is he doesnt value himself away from playing. he could have been a fantastic coach if he managed to clean his act. he still has a lot to give football but if only he could. unf i think its too late now and his demons have taken over. whats happened to the pals who sponged off him for years - where are they now?

So very sad to see such a talented and well loved character, struggling with health and addiction problems.
He reminds me so much of my nephew, a happy-go-lucky, well loved and talented bloke and an alcoholic.

He's been alcohol free for 10 years now, after deciding to live, rather than die, when he started with alcohloic fits, doctors told him he only had weeks to live.
His names also Paul, my hopes are that Paul Gascoigne can do the same.

As of Monday morning Paul has asked for help and admitted he's an alcoholic.
A consortium of friends led by Christ Evans, gary liniker and piers brosnan have put up the money to send gazza to America for treatment that is likely to last months rather than weeks.
Good luck gazza, I hope you make a full recovery.

its never to late m8, these drying oot places are all well and good and they do help in some ways, but they cant stop some one drinking if they have the mind to, only he can silence his demons, the road to recovery is a very long one for some one with severe alcohol addictions, it wont be cured with a few sessions in these drying out clinics, what he has do to is get his mind focused on a hobby/ pastime etc, something he enjoys doing for example, perhaps not football because this will remind him to much of his problems, and when/if he gets this problem under control he will have to keep at it probably fur the rest of his life.

Unfortunately drinking heavily has been a way of life for Paul for a long long time, even as a world class superstar he was drinking and managers turned a blind eye because of his genius on the pitch. I sincerely hope it's not too late to save him.

obviously drinking a hell of a lot more now than then, if he was really bad in his football days if wouldnt have been able to perform like he did on the pitch.

thank god he has got help and i hope to god he stays in that clinic for months and gets well. thankfully he has good friends who are willing to help but what id like to know is where the **** is 5 bellies now gazzas money is all gone???

Addiction of any type is a horrible thing, it usually goes either way, there's no middle ground or grey area, you either clean up or die.
Ave always respected people who beat addiction as there is usually a lot more to it, a root cause that plugs into the worst parts of peoples nature that just wont go away.
A lost a good mate years ago to the drink, he was one of the most intelligent people i ever knew, you feel totally helpless and guilty because there is nothing you can do to help someone in that state.

You can try the understanding way or the pull yourself together attitude but none of them work, at the end of the day they can only save themselves.
Gazza has always been on the edge, take a lad from the streets and give him big bags of cash and anything else he desired and its always going to run the risk of wanting to stay in that world.
Drink has had a impact on his career, it cost him his wife and if he doesn't stop his life but only Gazza can save himself.
