The former energy secretary Chris Huhne is facing a prison sentence and a humiliating end to his political career after he pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice by dodging a speeding penalty 10 years ago.

On the first day of what was due to be his trial, the former Liberal Democrat cabinet minister dramatically changed his plea to guilty, admitting after almost two years of repeated denials that his former wife, Vicky Pryce, had taken speeding points for him in 2003.

Shortly afterwards, he announced outside Southwark crown court that he would be resigning from his Eastleigh parliamentary seat, triggering a delicate marginal byelection for his party and signalling the final collapse of a parliamentary career that saw him twice unsuccessfully contest the party leadership.

Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg said he was "shocked and saddened" after Chris Huhne pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and quit as an MP.

Was he shocked that he did it and lied, or that he got caught and admitted it, after wasting everyones time?

People do it he just could not convince his ex-wife because this lady doesn?t like chocolate points?..

If she would have just kept quite nothing would have happened now Huhne ex-wife faces points trial and we do not know the outcome yet so what good she has achieved if she ended in prison??

I don't trust any of them but I hate labour more than the others as that crook Brown stole my pension but put his own up .
We all think that torys are for the rich and labour are for the working man but after the last few years we all know
that all MPs what ever party are only there for there own benefit .

I can only think of one MP that is in politics for his beliefs is the member for Bolsover

You're right of course. Back in the day, depending on your politics, you may not have agreed with either Enoch Powell or Wedgie Benn, but you knew that they were politicians that passionately believed in what they preached.
