Labour Plans Mansion Tax To Fund 10p Tax Rate

Ed Miliband is trying to show Labour stands for ordinary workers

Ed Miliband has called for the 10p tax rate to be reintroduced, funded by a mansion tax on homes worth more than ?2m.

In an audacious bid to outflank David Cameron, he claimed Labour would use next month's Budget to bring back the band controversially scrapped by Gordon Brown in 2007.

The measure would be funded by a mansion tax on homes worth ?2m or more, Mr Miliband explained in a key speech on the economy in Bedford.

I really. really doubt if poverty is going to affect anyone living in a ?2m. mansion if they have to pay a bit more tax. I'm all for it.

As for abolishing VAT?... dream on.

like the other day was fitting a radio, so wansn't "listening" to it, but siad somehwere council has had to take "?20,000,000 out of it's reserves"

so there must be some left but what was the intrest on that!

He must take millionaires for mugs but at least his less educated followers will fall for it. Any millionaire worth his salt will just register their properties via an offshore account the kind his party happily supported.

He's also talking about reducing the tax on fuel. Brilliant idea. Lets reduce how much money comes into the country to pay for services so I wonder where the money is going to come from to make up for the losses. I know lets borrow it and then pay it back with interest.

The mans a clown. Much though I hate the tories at least they raised the minimum tax bracket so the less well off never had to pay any tax. Listen to him on the TV offering to hand out money left right and centre without saying where it's going to come form.

For those wearing the Labour blinkers take a look at the facts straight from the HMRC in relation to the income tax rates comparing the coalition to labour. Remember it was Labour that did away with the 10% income tax rate humping everyone.

In short those earning up to just over ?50,000 per year paid more under labour. Those earning over ?1000,000 to over ?2,000,000 paid more under the coalition. Don't be bluffed by his slimey extrerior.

They all lie, it just depends how much and what about. I don't particularly like any of them, I generally vote for the group that have lied the least in the past, always a juggling act really. They all seem to promise tax cuts and then slide in other tax rises instead, co can't win.

I prefer the ones who go all out and say they'll tax me, better than the backstabbing ones who smile as they reach into my pocket and steal my wallet.

SJ, if your'e going to vote for the one that get's rid of VAT then you'll not be voting.

I like the 10p tax idea.
then at least those on that sort of wage will actually be contributing something.

I'll bet the Tory ?10,000 tax threshold, will soon turn into a device to attack, yet again, those on low wages.

after all they are scroungers who dont contribute a penny to the exchequer, aren't they!

I'm for a "flat tax" say 15-30% whatever the source of income, whoever you are.

Cameron finds it "repugnant". no surprise there then.

                      Firemouth rules for life.
If it aint broke, don't fix it!
If its broke, fix it and use it again!
If it proper broke, use it for something else!

They generally avoid paying tax anyway, they have firms of accountants doing it for them, so in reality a lot of them probably pay less than than someone on ?25k a year.

I think thats the idea though

As a lot of these rich blokes are tax avoiders and plant money abroad its a way of getting some back if they have property here

its closing a loophole a little as such

for instance if some russian oil tycoon probably pays taxes in russia jersey swutzerland or wherever but uses uk a lot and has two houses here

at least this way they can get some of his cash
