    More than 100 people were hurt when a meteor shower struck a remote Russian village this morning.

    Fragments of the meteor fell in a thinly populated area of the Chelyabinsk region, the emergency ministry said in a statement.

    A total of 102 people called for medical assistance following the incident, according to interior ministry spokesman Vadim Kolesnikov, mostly for treatment of injuries from glass broken by the explosions.

    Mr Kolsenikov also said about 6,000 square feet of a roof at a zinc factory collapsed.

    Reports conflicted on what happened in the clear skies.

    A spokeswoman for the emergency ministry, Irina Rossius, said there was a meteor shower, but another ministry spokeswoman, Elena Smirnikh, was quoted by the Interfax news agency as saying it was a single meteorite.

    Amateur video broadcast on Russian television showed an object speeding across the sky about 9.20am local time, leaving a thick white trail and an intense flash.

              Are you referring to the Russian Govt or the poor residents, all I know those hurt could even be some British residents?..

                                          truth is they always knew it was a meteor of comet.
                                          the problem was there was no impact crater.
                                          that apparent misery was solved after proper studies were made and it was discovered to be an air burst, impact.
                                          even the unearthly metals and radioactivity are all consistent with an air burst strike.
                                          what's frightening about Tunguska, is not that it was an alien attack or ship crash.
                                          its how small the meteor was.
                                          only around 100m yet yields suggested from the explosion start at 5 megatons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
