Keeping their birth names came mainly from Hollywood. All actors have to register their performance name. Look at Marilyn Monroe, built up her career...married three times. Name changes.. Norma Jeane Mortenson (birth name), Norma Jeane Baker, Norma Jeane Dougherty, Norma Jeane DiMaggio, Marilyn Monroe Miller.
