David Cameron vows to end cheap alcohol sales

David Cameron has told MPs he will "deal with" cheap alcohol being sold in supermarkets in England and Wales.

It comes after reports the government has ditched plans for 45p per unit minimum alcohol pricing.

Tory MP Sarah Wollaston called on the PM to stick to the plan, saying it would cut crime and early deaths.

Mr Cameron said the government was considering the outcome of a consultation but said sales of "20p cans of lager" had "got to change".

"There is a problem with deeply discounted alcohol in supermarkets and other stores and I am absolutely determined that we will deal with this," he told MPs.

What's he going to do, stop taking donations from the likes of Sainsbury's if they don't hike the price and make more profit? I doubt that very much.

if they was serious about cutting deaths etc from alcohol, all they have to do is bring in 50p tax to anything over 5%, ( i dont want them to like ffs ) but your alcoholics only drink alki white, super strength lagers, and cheapo voddy, sort this band of alcohol out and the deaths will be cut, bringing 50p unit across the board is unfair and unjust, as the vast majority of drinkers are sensible.

If they are serious about alcohol and smoking they would ban them full stop, they wont because it effects peoples liberty and the majority drink ok

I go weeks without a drink and when I do want a beer why should I/we have to pay even more? Why not raise the age limit to 21.

That's 2 bits of legislation that he's ducked out of now. His donors must be wondering what to pay for next. A drop in corporation tax perhaps?
