Policewoman Sues Man Who Called 999

A man who dialled 999 fearing a burglary at his petrol station is being sued by the policewoman who answered the call because she fell on the premises.

The officer, Kelly Jones, tripped over a kerbstone when she went to the station in Thetford, Norfolk, owned by Steve Jones last August.

Her lawyers say she was hurt and argue that he failed to keep her safe while she was investigating the possible break-in.

Mr Jones says the move raises bigger questions about Britain's culture of compensation.
"I think it's the compensation culture gone a little too far, this is one step too far.

    Something needs to be done.

"I feel we need a minister of the common sense in this country," he told Sky News.

"We really need the police to be on our side right now," he added, citing what he says is an increased numbers of shoplifters or people who drive off without paying after filling up the tank.

Ms Jones could not immediately be reached.

"We were walking around to see if there had been any signs of entry in the premises and she tripped over the kerb," Mr Jones recalled.

"She got up and we carried on," he said, adding that the officer did not mention anything at the time and that she seemed to be "more embarrassed than hurt".

If successful, the claim could put people off calling emergency services. But Mr Jones said this was an isolated incident.

"On the whole the police do a great job."

OK, sake of argument they was a theif on the premisis and she gave chase out onto the main road, over a locked gate into a parking lot and WHAP off-line - who would she have tried to sue then.

The fuzz turned up for a robbery - didn't at M-H-M 1/2 hr later turned up AFTER they had gone

The thing is he looks 'differant' to the petrol station owners round here, so i would drop it mrs - but if he looked the 'same' as the ones round here, sue his arse off.

Wouldn't that leave her kerb crawling?
On a more serious note if the emergency services can sue when they're injured it's going to lead to problems. However from an employers side of things (the government) it will save the government paying out compensation and sick pay....... bet they pick up on this quite quickly as a way of paying out less.

From memory, if she sues and wins her employer is entitled to any sickness pay, that they may have paid her, back from her as well.

Another copper jumps on the suing bandwagon
All right I know its 1 day old news

A police officer is suing a burglary victim for ?10,000 after allegedly falling into a drain while investigating a break-in.
PC Richard Seymour says he tore an Achilles tendon and spent four months in a cast after the fall during a 4am call-out to the man's shop in March last year.
The 34-year-old officer is now suing owner Stuart Lambley for 'loss of overtime' during his six-month absence from work despite being on full pay throughout this time.
A letter from PC Seymour's lawyers adds that the officer also missed out on special duties during the London 2012 Olympics something which came as a 'bitter disappointment' to him.
Mr Lambley said: 'I was in complete shock when I received the letter last month.
'I won't be calling the police any more. I don't see the point. Not if there's a danger of getting sued. It should not be allowed.'

OK we all have bills to pay, mouths to feed internet to pay for etc etc, so 'why' does a gut who is off-line on full pay need to sue for 'loss of overtime' he is clearly unable to drive so thefore he don't need a car, thefore he is saving a fortune in not buying fuel - thus saving the need for the extra money.

?10K overtime in 6 months - and we pay his wages?

"Loss of overtime" implies he is still able to work.

know a friend who bust his leg - yes he was buggered but he still managed to (needed help) to run his garage on his own.
