Britain was six hours from running out of gas in March, it has been reported.

High demand during record cold temperatures during the month combined with a pipeline fault to drive stores of gas "dangerously low", the Crown Estate said.

But National Grid, which pipes gas around the UK, insisted the nation has "substantial resilience" and diverse supply sources, including access to imports of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

At the time, reports said Britain was two days from running out of stored gas, but the Crown Estate, which manages the Queen's property portfolio - including vast underground gas caverns - said it came even closer to supply interruptions.

The pipe is probably from Norway, from memory. Doesn't matter how much gas or oil is in the North Sea they will sell to the highest bidder which may not be a UK broker - it may even be a subsidury of that company. That broker will then sell it on again to another broker or company at a profit and it may or may not make it to the UK. At the end of the day the price is what they fix it at, and you will pay it since you have no choice *shrug*

Everyone has a choice use it less and try to do without then they are left with surplus. If people use it less or not at all they have nothing to sell. We are all too cosy nowadays and are scared to stick up for ourselves. I remember the coal fire and the jackets on the bed There are numerous ways of producing power for our lifetime the trick for them is to convince people we really need them to look after us when we know they only look after themselves.

I bet the oil companies and government would make at least as much as they do now, if not more, if they put the price of petrol p to ?10 a gallon tomorrow.

It's all said and done saying charge 22 German marks for fuel.. But the majority of us don't pay for fuel.

For instance, some of us claim fuel back from revenue..
I claim 1.02 dem back per mile.. But in reality it costs us 0.51dem..

Now if the government didn't pay double per mile it would be able to lower the cost of fuel by a 1/4..
