Fury as Tories look to limit the number of times you can see your GP each year

Documents examining health reforms ask Tory activists if they agree or disagree with an annual cap on the number of appointments patients can book

Conservatives have considered limiting the number of times patients can visit their family doctor in a year, it emerged tonight.

Documents examining health reforms ask Tory activists if they agree or disagree with an annual cap on the number of appointments patients can book.

It is one of a number of options grassroots members were asked to look at in a consultation document, Local Health Discussion Brief, posted on the Conservative Policy Forum (CPF) website

    Goes both ways

if a UFP is there 10 times a week for a log off ticket then yes, but if somebody had a fault that takes so many attempts for the dictor to fix then they get anothet fault and iver the limit then what?

Also somepeople need contiunus dictir visits for ongoing lifetime faults

What a ridiculous idea, basicaly if I have seen my doctor on a limited time and it happens I am going to have breathing problem I will not able to see them until my limit is lifted. (I AM DEAD)

I will remember who I have to vote next time.

It's another way of saving money. Saves not only on paying the GP but also on your days off sick, ssp payments, prescriptions, referrals to hospitals - saves even more and saves paying locums. Even better if you die becuse you can't get to see your GP it will mean your job (if you have one) will become vacant and so will allow someone to take your job - saving dole money, if you don't have a job will save on dole money, and if it's a 2 bedroomed house you lived in - well your wife will have to move within 3 minutes or pay for the extra room she'll have etc. It will also save on paying your pensions should you die. All round winner for the government, Dave says you should be behind it 100%. Suprised they didn't adopt it sooner............

stupidest f**king idea I've ever heard.

Though I will say a lot of countries charge you to see your GP, it's a token amount, but can be looked at 2 ways.... 1) It stops people going needlessly (I don't know many who do) 2) It stops people going when they need to and don't have money. However it exists in New Zealand and the government does like the NZ approach, so watch the space.

To be fair i part agree their are so many patients who waste doctors time it is unreal, my daughter and her mates are some i have seen her take the baby to doctors, walk in centre twice and hospital all in the same day because she was crying

Old people go to doctors and trade off with each other various ailments like its a competition

Many many people clog up the NHS with colds and flu and sore throats its a waste of time

The actual idea itself if applied in the correct manner is good imo

but it needs safeguards illness can strike anytime and to not allow treatment because they used there allotted allowance is wrong.

but minor ailments like colds should be struck off visiting altogether

If you are on capacity benefits you have to see your GP every week to prove you are useless, looks that they will looking for work now if they can get an appointment, good on con.

Here we have doctors.. im not sure how many.. but if my mrs rings to see them.. they say nearest appointment is in 4 weeks.. now.. if i ring my doctors which is in the next rtown they say.. when would you like.. to be able to do this i need to register with my doctor using my mother address..

On this basis.. wouldnt it be feasable to scrap the catchment areas to allow people to move to doctors outside their catchment areas ..

This will save money.. because there will be less doctors sat around waiting for patients to become ill..

Its no wonder harold shipmen did what he did.. He musnt of had enough patients.. he had to make them poorly himself to hill his waiting room up....

Another idea from a totally out of touch Tory government..

I had a chest infection a few weeks back, called the doc's to get the third degree from the receptionist who wanted to diagnose me over the phone.... booked me to see the practice nurse the same day (It was this or wait 4 days !! Argggg)

We have recently had a multi million pound new doctors surgery built... No extra docs just more bodies walking around with bits of paper.... ARggggggg

How can folk who are treated by Harley Street doctors ever get the grip of the normal body on the street...

If folk waste appointments they should be charged a nominal fee for no shows... Has to be better than all of us getting a worse service because of time wasters...

                          Rant over for now................

I'm not a..............to this bunch in power ...................
Go for it. The future is promised to no one

Got to admit a better system would be to charge for missed appointments without a valid excuse. It pisses me off trying to get an appointment to be told the next one is about four days time. You then turn up so see wasters sitting there with dandruff and split ends.

Limiting how often you can see a doctor may improve the treatment for the majority as it may mean you get diagnosed sooner if you have something serious. No doubt the Government would look into safeguards for those that need regular appointments but then that wouldn't make good headlines to wind the sheep up.

Did you actually get any treatment?

I used to get grilled by the receptionist when asking for an appointment. They don't do it now, not after I blasted the bitch about it not being her job to question about my condition that she's not qualified to diagnose.

My last visit was pushed to the nurse. I needed some info from my notes, advice about an issue with an ongoing condition & I've had a stabbing/lumpy pain in my throat.
I didn't get the info from my notes, not a jot of help with the ongoing condition & apparently referred my for my throat problem. Then she stabbed my & ran tests on my blood sugar levels, Thyroid, kidney & liver functions... What my kidneys & liver have to do with my neck, I have no idea.
Test results came back clean, but still no referral.

It's about 3 months on & I still have stabbing pains in my throat. I'm yet to call again for an appointment, delaying it as I know I'll lose my rag the moment they do anything other than ask my name, address, which doctor I'm with then give me a date & time.

I'd like to see a billing system for missed appointments. As you may be able to tell, I let things build up before I go. Then it's one visit to get everything taken care of... not three appointments.
