Well this seems all too familiar, anyone remember arming the Afghans against the USSR (such a nice bunch the Afghans), Iraq against Iran and so on. That really helped us along and did us some good didn't it. So here we are repeating the same old mistakes - I can only think that arms sales will go through the roof and the government will be happy.
The UK and its allies would be able to send arms to Syrian opposition groups straightaway if they felt such a move was justified, William Hague has said.
Moderate groups fighting the government can be armed after an existing EU embargo was lifted on Monday.
The foreign secretary said the UK had no plans to send weapons straightaway but was not precluded from doing so under the terms of the EU's agreement.

and then we have Russia arming the other side to the teeth.
Russia says it will go ahead with deliveries of S-300 anti-aircraft missiles to Syria, and that the arms will help deter foreign intervention.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said the missiles were a "stabilising factor" that could dissuade "some hotheads" from entering the conflict.
Russia also criticised an EU decision not to renew an arms embargo on Syria.
In wars there's only one winner, it's the arms salesman who wins the most, followed by the grave diggers. Don't get me wrong, I don't believe for a minute that people should die needlessly, but if they want a regime change why the f**k don't they just send in the SAS or whoever and kill Bashar al-Assad - because it's a lot quicker. I suppose it's also cheaper for the Syrians, and the arms dealers will not make any money.
Anyway arming them reminds me of the cold war. We armed the Afghans and didn't it turn out well for us?
