    No lesson learnt then?

Syria has dismissed as "a caravan of lies" claims that it used chemical weapons, after the US said it would give the rebels "direct military aid".
President Obama made the decision after his administration concluded Syrian forces under Bashar al-Assad were using chemical weapons, a spokesman said.
A rebel leader, Salim Idris, told the BBC it was a "very important step".
But Syria's foreign ministry said the US had used "fabricated information" on chemical weapons to justify the move.
Washington was resorting to "cheap tactics" to justify Mr Obama's decision to arm the rebels, said a statement from the ministry.
On the ground, there were reports of the fiercest fighting in months in Syria's largest city, Aleppo.
Two years of conflict had killed at least 93,000 people, the UN said on Thursday, at a current rate of 5,000 people a month. More than 1,700 children under the age of 10 have died, it added.

    CIA training?
Ben Rhodes, a deputy national security adviser to Mr Obama, said the president had made the decision to increase assistance, including "military support", to the rebels' Supreme Military Council (SMC) and Syrian Opposition Coalition. The US was "comfortable" working with Gen Idris, leader of the SMC, and aimed to isolate some of the more extremist elements of the opposition, such as Sunni militant group al-Nusra, he added.

Mr Rhodes did not give details about the military aid, other than to say it would be "different in scope and scale to what we have provided before".

BBC News - Syria regime denounces US chemical weapons claim

David Cameron has said Britain has taken "no decision" to arm the Syrian rebels after the US declared it would provide them with military support.
But the prime minister backed the US assessment that the Syrian regime had used chemical weapons and described President Assad as a "brutal dictator".
He is to speak to President Obama by phone, ahead of next week's G8 summit where Syria will be high on the agenda.
Syria says claims it used chemical weapons are "a caravan of lies".
Russia says it is not convinced by the evidence presented by the US and the UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon has said providing arms to either side would not help as there must be a political, not military, solution.
The White House said President Obama had made the decision to provide arms to the opposition after concluding the Assad regime was using chemical weapons.

Speaking at a news conference in the Downing Street garden, at which he unveiled an economic package for Northern Ireland, Mr Cameron said samples from inside Syria showing evidence of chemical weapons had been tested by the UK Defence Science and Technology Laboratory at Porton Down.
There was "credible evidence of multiple attacks using chemical weapons", he added.

BBC News - No decision on arming Syrian rebels, says David Cameron

I seem to recall that was said about Iraq, and look where we ended up on that one. Iraq and Afghanistan have cost the UK taxpayer over ?20 billion, that couple with banks no wonder we have so much ing debt and now we're going off on another "interference trip" into a fight that has nothing to do with us, and as we did so well with supplying arms to the opposition in Afghanistan in the 1980's, I'm sure we'll all end up paying the price. Any MP who votes for us to get involved in that one needs to be named so that come the next election they're kicked out

The US and UK governments really don't learn do they, just as we're getting tf out of Afghanistan they have to find somewhere else to send people to be injured or die..... The vote to get involved should be a referendum, not just MP's who want to make a name, and a profit for their arms dealer mates, for themselves.

If there are to be voting choices can we have

    a) MP's should go personally and fight on their own in Syria
    b) Send in the UK forces
    c) Stay out of it

I'd be hard pushed to pick between a and c... and would probably pick a first and when they'd gone choose c....

Yes we foot the bill, arm those who eventually go on to run the country just in time for them to turn round and use those arms against us. No lesson ever seems to be learned from out interference in the past. It's not the MP's who pay the price, but Joe Public whether that's directly in our armed forces, through higher taxes, reduced investment in the UK, or afterwards as civilians who suffer attacks... all in the name of "protecting British interests" - that would be the interests of arms dealers and manufacturers.... not the public.

If they're so insistent on regime change the CIA should buy some bullets, get a sniper out there and shoot him - simple, cheap and saves lives.

The politicians made all nurses and teacher have a degree in nursing or teaching before they become nurse or teacher, I think all MPs should be forced to take a degree in history before they can be a MP, if they did they would not have gone to war in Afghanistan and would not arm Syrian rebels and jihad's after arming Bin ladin against Russian army with Britain's SAS training al gaeda how to kill russians .We will not be thanked for helping the rebels and all the muslim world will hate us and we will be a terrorist target again

My kids or someone else's kids? I'd take the sticks off both.... However this is more like 2 kids fighting and 50 kids being injured by those fighting.

However these are not kids fighting and it isn't they who are dying, it is the defenceless people who are suffering and dying. The US no longer recognise the president of that country and so are saying if he left everything would be ok. If they're so sure then all Obama has to do is order him killed. Let's face it if the other side win they will most likely kill him anyway. All I'm saying us cut out the middle man, cut out the suffering and senseless deaths, go there kill one man and stop it - since the Americans are so convinced. I'm not so convinced and it does appear to be yet another proxy war with Russia and Iran supplying arms on one side and the US/UK/France on the other wanting to arm the other side. It will end badly for everyone concerned. Russia and China will not walk away from this one and let the US/UK etc get on with it.

The only losers in that internal war are the civilians. Whether we get involved or not, and even if we help the side that wins, we will be hated for it and lose.

There are only 2 groups that will gain from us supplying arms:

The arms manufacturers who make a quick buck with no consequences
Terrorists who obtain the arms and use them against us at a later date

The plot seems to be that "the west" and "the communists and extremists", who are selling arms, interfering in a country that none have no business in. It's as though it's a BBC repeat of the late 1970's and instead of Europe being the battleground the Syria is.. Perhaps they all see Syria as a testing ground for new types of weapons. The only way that the US/UK could provide evidence that chemical weapons had been used would be to supply the documentation saying they sold them to Syria. After Iraq why would Russia and China take the word of the UK and US? - I can't think why they would.

As for why, take your pick

Obama is just pi$$ed off that he can't tell countries what to do. Iran, Syria Lebanon and the rest of them.
Putin won't back down because he thinks he's superman.
France will sell weapons to anyone to make a profit, and join in but only if the side they're joining are winning already
The UK? well we have money to waste apparently and still think we can tell countries what to do. There's profit in there somewhere
Iran because they hate the west
                      Lebanon because Iran said to
China because they can make money from it

It could also be because we haven't had a good war for ages. Wars tend to cut the population of the countries involved - ending high unemployment as more die, unfortunately it's not those that make the decision to go to war who end up dying. High unemployment around the world, want to deflect the public from failed domestic policies, want to build up your image for the next election? Kill 3 birds with one stone - have a war in another country!

Also because we british are, for want of a better word, colonists at heart, we invade other countries for all their good stuff. We always have done, thats why we had a British empire. Maybe it stems from all the invaders of England blood mixing into our DNA way back in the mists of time, maybe we are naturally like that. Im sure Syria has some good stuff that we want, maybe its oil, maybe its natural gasses, maybe its some other element. And if they havent, theyre conveniently placed enough for us to get a toe hold next door to other countries that have got good stuff that we want.

David Cameron has told MPs that the government will reserve the right to arm rebels in Syria without holding a vote in the House of Commons. He said it was essential to keep the "ability to take action very swiftly".

The prime minister also said Russia now agreed it was "necessary" and "right" that President Assad must be ousted before peace could be achieved.

Speaker John Bercow has said MPs will get a vote before any decision on arming rebels is implemented. An estimated 83,000 people have died since fighting began in Syria in early 2011.

More than 80 Conservative MPs have signed a letter calling for a full Commons vote before any decision to take action against the Assad government.

Asked about this demand, Mr Cameron said: "You are absolutely right to make the point that we make a big commitment to come to this House and explain, vote and all the rest of it, but obviously governments have to reserve the ability to take action very swiftly on this or on other issues."

BBC News - David Cameron on Syria: We reserve right to act without vote

and the half truths continue. No doubt we'll learn after the Al Qaeda Syrian branch have their weapons delivered. The arms industry must be desperate for sales with the British taxpayer footing the bill for weapons that may be used against us at a later date...
