David Cameron's claim that areas which allow fracking to take place locally could "immediately" get ?1m was a slip of the tongue, Downing Street has said.
The prime minister told factory workers in Lancashire that it would be a "big mistake" to miss out on the benefits offered by shale gas drilling.
But he said communities had to be sure it was safe and could get ?1m upfront - and more if wells were successful.
The amount energy firms have agreed to pay when they start work is ?100,000.
Fracking uses high-pressure liquid pumped deep underground to fracture shale rock and release gas.

The prime minister said fracking in the US had brought down energy costs - encouraging businesses to return - while European countries were currently "missing out big time".
"I think we would be making a big mistake as a nation if we didn't think hard about how to encourage fracking and cheaper gas prices right here in the UK," he said.
But he said people had to feel fracking was "OK for them, their families and their communities" and nothing would happen "unless it is environmentally safe".
He added: "So there's no question of having earthquakes and fire coming out of taps and all the rest of it. There will be very clear environmental procedures and certificates you will have to get before you can frack."

BBC News - PM's ?1m fracking claim was slip of tongue

Must have cut his tongue he's such a sharp used car salesman. This will be so that money can be given to local councils to waste on large screen TV's and it must be ok because your elected council allowed it. A lot of good that is if your water gets contaminated or your house gets damaged by earthquakes. Will the companies pay, will theck ck, they'll expect you to claim on your insurance that you paid so much for. I wonder how much the premiums will go up in fracking areas. As for cheaper fuel "North Sea oil will give Britain cheap fuel"....

Of course we'll have to get past all the cover ups before we get the real data.
They will be hoping it happens so they have someone to blame, as water standards are due to rise

So if the government is leaving it up to the people to decide why this:

"We've done petitions, over 800 of us responded to the Environment Agency's consultation, the parish council has come out against and now we can say with confidence that the residents don't want it.
from here BBC News - Balcombe fracking protesters meet villagers

The government is listening to the people who stand to make the money out of fracking and ignoring the villagers and the council who live there and don't want the ?100k bribe, so why are they still there?

and it matters not what the people who live there think.

The sharp decline in production of oil and gas from under British waters is "worrying" industry leaders.
Trade body Oil and Gas UK says there is record investment this year of ?13.5bn.
But its annual report on the industry's economic impact highlights the sharp fall in output of 19% during 2011 and 14% in 2012.
It says the industry's latest estimates of the continuing decline suggest a further fall of at least 8.5% during this year, with no recovery next year.
Only from 2015 should the current high level of investment begin to have an impact on raising output.
However, the level of investment will fall from ?13.5bn this year to between ?8bn and ?10bn from 2015.

BBC News - 'Worrying' decline in oil and gas production

and just in time to coincide with fracking..... now they can make out that people who don't want fracking under their homes and contaminated water are the "bad people who are going to make prices rise quicker because North Sea oil and gas are running out and we can't start drilling the shale" - utter bollox and more than a coincidence if you ask me.

thats not a fracking site its a oil and gas drilling site like others in that area.Tree huggers and the greens are not known for there common sense

Yeah just think the oil and gas will mean Britain will pay less for oil and gas, just as North Sea oil and gas kept prices down and made us rich........

No one should believe what the lefty's say about fracking. It's not true. They are against it cause it will make wind and solar useless. I'm for fracking but before they can frack they should only be able to sell the gas in the country they frack it from making the Natural Gas affordable for all. If you don't do this they will sell it abroad for profit and stiff the country they are fracking in. Remember they have been fracking since 1949. It only became dangerous when the lefty's dream of renewable energy became threaten by Natural Gas. Talking about North sea oil. Why is the east coast of America using North sea oil that cost more that west texas oil? Oh i forgot cause the oil company's and oil traders make more money.

And the oil companies will be rubbing their hands making more when fracking kicks off, meanwhile fuel costs will rise anyway. If it's so safe they can start in the postcode area SW1A 2AA.......

The Yanks for one are being pretty clever. Buying up and using other countries resources first so they will end up with the largest stockpile and charge as much as the want once the others have ran out.

and Maggie did the same with coal in the UK, although she was really looking to make miners unemployed as revenge for showing up Ted Heath for being the tw@ he was.

I think you will find on the starting up of the first nuclear power station they claimed soon electricity will cost next to nothing as it will be so cheap to produce?
that didn't happen, I wasn't old enough then but that's what my Pa kind of remembers.
Mine you Mp expense were lower then it was less Chardonnay and more chip butties!

Anyone consider with all the fracking holes the whole island might sink into the north sea never to be seen again
