    Electricity Theft: Ofgem Urges Crackdown

The energy regulator could force electricity suppliers to tackle power theft because of the growing cost to households.

Ofgem estimates that 25,000 cases of electricity theft annually cost law-abiding consumers ?200m - or ?7 per household - with a third of the loss blamed on cannabis farms.

It doesn't really matter how cheap it is, people will steal and continue to. Besides that, it's all a load of bollox - I bet we don't all get a ?7 drop in the price even if they do catch them all. It will be swallowed up in the name of profits. I seem to recall teh government altering the regulations for whiplash claims last year, because it was costing everyone ?50 a year - hands up everyone who's premiums went down ?50 this year

The energy companies can not add up I had wrong billing in the last few years, but they are simple to point to cannabis farms thief, in the last 5 years they have not gone to household to check meters so whose fault is that?

The energy company know how much electricity is going out of each substation, and they know which properties it serves. So you add up the historic usage of all the properties and see how close it gets to the actual electricity used, I have a feeling they are about to increase utility.

The government will unveil plans to reduce the huge number of whiplash claims which have been pushing up insurance premiums.
Justice secretary, Chris Grayling, will on Tuesday launch a consultation on creating new independent medical panels to improve diagnosis of whiplash injuries.
This aims to ensure that genuine claims can still go ahead, but exaggerated, misrepresented or fraudulent claims are robustly challenged.

It estimated that whiplash claims cost ?2bn in 2010 or ?90 for each policy.
This is the latest stage of a series of significant civil justice reforms by the government, designed to reduce legal costs and stop the growth of compensation culture in England and Wales.
Tuesday's consultation complements law changes which will come into effect in April 2013.

So did anyone get insurance for less from April this year? or did we get cked over as usual and the government passes legislation to help private companies make more money?

                            some truth in it methinks

and the reason why the meter checks are not made is they are on a key

my mate used to rent his home out, he now lives in it but its still down as rented

In 4 years he has never paid a proper bill, he runs them up then says they did a flit, changes name and starts again. He grows weed too

Also another person i know has there electric wired up he too grows weed, they are not in the scale of the picture above but they share the plants only about 10 each coming at slightly different times they make a good steady income but pay no electric

newer houses tend to have meters outside the older ones have them inside, and thats where they have a problem there are many people who dont pay electric or do a month on 2 off and it will keep rising as energy prices rise

the only way to stop it is major investment to change all meters or have them all put outside
