Drivers will be able to park on double yellow lines for 15 minutes under proposals to boost trade in high street shops.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles wants to introduce a "grace period" that would allow motorists to pop into local shops without being hit by hefty penalties, according to The Daily Telegraph.

Higher fines could be introduced outside London for motorists who park dangerously in order to secure support for the move.

A source close to Mr Pickles told The Daily Telegraph: "The high street is in danger of shrinking or dying off, and over-aggressive parking enforcement is part of the reason why.

Be hard to police it

A lot of double yellows are for a reason and as an ex trucker i know that letting people park on double yellows in certain areas will cause mayhem, roads will become blocked as car drivers are not very good at giving larger vehicles the turning room needed in town centres

Is that because the special people live in London who deserve to park wtf they like for no cost then? What makes them so special then? It's not like London has a high street anyway it's one big tourist and shopping centre.

Nah f**k it, if I win the big one I want all the money, people who have won before won't be handing theirs back.

Why would I want to give the government even more money, they get enough of me as it is to enable them to have second homes and expenses. As I've already said "None of the debt has been paid off yet despite 3 years of cuts the debt is still rising further" - so where has my money gone?

If they really want to solve the parking problems in our high streets, abolish pedestrian right of way laws. Make them responsible for their actions.

Where I live, we have the widest high street in the UK. It had parking in two areas of the central strip & was always busy. Then the rat arsed pedestrian came along. These brain dead wastes of genetic material kept stepping out in front of the buses & getting themselves hurt or killed.

The councils solution... pedestrianize the high street, stop cars from entering but still let the buses through, don't expand current parking areas, but they did close a few to make it look pretty...it's just a shame no one goes there now because there are no parking spaces.

The result, morons are still getting knocked down by buses & the high street is full of charity shops.. but nothing else worth while.

This may not be the answer for every high street, but it will thin the herd & make the gene pool a little deeper.
