Texas Running Out Of Lethal Execution Drug

Texas is running out of its execution drug, raising concerns that two executions set for next month may be delayed.

The US state's Department of Criminal Justice said its remaining supply of pentobarbital expires in September and that no alternatives have been found.

The state - which carries out nearly half of executions in the country - has already put 11 prisoners to death this year and has at least seven more scheduled for the coming months.

Agency spokesman Jason Clark said: "We will be unable to use our current supply of pentobarbital after it expires. We are exploring all options at this time said."

I seem to recall the reason they cannot get any more is because it was made in the UK and used to be shipped to the US. I don't recall whether the UK government stopped the export, the US government stopped the import or whether the company that used to make it gave up, whether on moral or profit related grounds.

Maybe if Texas killed less people they'd not run out as quick. Perhaps they should look at giving all their death row inmates some animal company to keep them occupied while they wait, perhaps 20 rattlesnamkes should be enough? Failing that throw George Bush in there to confuse them to death.

I have no problem with people being executed, provided that if subsequently they were found not guilty after being executed that *everyone* (including the judge, jury, witnesses and police officers) involved in the case is given the same sentence. That might deter some hasty and politically motivated executions, which Texas seems to have.
