?7.2 million for 'unused' charging points

COUNCILS across the UK have spent more than ?7.2m on charging points for electric cars over the last three years.

But many are not being used, with one in six councils having at least one point not used once at all over the past year, the BBC found.

And less than a third of authorities have a charging point being used on average more than once a week, more than half of which are used solely by council vehicles.

BBC Radio 4's You and Yours found that council spending amounts to ?1,750 per electric car.

Answers to Freedom of Information requests from 91% of councils in the UK revealed that 139 had spent ?7.21m on charging points between them since April 2010.

Electric cars alone will never catch on. Late for that appointment 110 miles away? Drive 100 miles in your electric car then wait 24 hours for it to charge before getting there, or set out the night before and stay at a hotel while it charges. Doubt there'll ever be a worthwhile so called electric car without some form of engine to charge it - otherwise the RAC and AA will have a very busy time just running up and down the motorways picking up electric cars. Wouldn't make any real difference to teh M62 or M25 though, since they're free parking at the best of times. The new gantries on the M62 only show aspirational speed limits, since you stand no kin chance of ever reaching the new limit most times of the day

        OFF TOPIC:-

Electric cycles are great for the big bad city, where the grass is green and the girls all taken, but USELESS for out in the country, going to a very nice house in the country.

Maybe all those green morons actually used their heads for a change. Since the electric car is more damaging to the environment than any petrol or diesel car, once you look into the damaged caused in mining & manufacturing of the batteries.

All we need now are all those Prius owners to drop dead & the worlds problems will be solved.

          Next target, Qashqai owners.

Luton being one of them no doubt, as I have never seen any of them used.
Just to top that they have been spending money converting an old railway line into a Guided Bus Route that is way behind schedule and way over budget, in fact this 8 mile stretch has already cost over ?90 Million and will probably end up costing about ?100 Million !!!
