    Should we ban smoking outdoors?

Smokers in many countries across the world have gradually been moved outdoors with the introduction of smoking bans in enclosed public places.

In the UK, the ban came into effect in stages across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland in 2006 and 2007.

Now some parts of America are taking it a step further by banning smoking outdoors, but should we follow suit?

Smokers now have fewer places to light up in parts of the US as some states have introduced an outdoor smoking ban.

Smoking is now illegal in more than 2,600 outdoor areas including parks, beaches, campuses and plazas across the country, in states that include New York and California.

It is a good question, is a violation of fundamental human rights.
Smoking is not illegal, why force humans into submission.
Can any one see the deferent between people making forced marriage and our govt forcing us to comply with the inhuman rules?
Ban sex it could spread aids people die.
Ban cars people die in crashes.
    Ban drinking people die.
    Ban flying people die.

If we follow your examples we'll have to also ban all laws that 'force' us to behave in a civilized manor. Since your argument is based on 'who are you to tell we what I can do!'...... Wait... That sounds familiar.... I've got it! That's the words I hear out of every deadbeat scumbag that thinks the world owes them.

Now if it's like Jellystone park, where risk of fires or within 100 meters of a gasoline station etc or flamable then yes, otherwise, no, as you just end up with angry cranky people.

We can not smoke in work place in or out, we can not smoke in the park, and in the pub this is going to be the rule of law. Smoking is addictive how people going to cope with this are a good question and I would like to hear from heavy smokers!!!!!

So you want to put the rights of smokers ahead of those that don't smoke?

This is a debate about following the americans in banning smoking in certain public areas... It isn't even being considered for a change in our laws.

It would be up to the smokers to deal with any change to the smoking ban. They choose to smoke & I'm sure nobody forced them to take up smoking.

There are plenty of alternatives to cigarettes that can be used in public places, pubs, work place. So why don't more smokers use them?

I used to smoke 40 a day..... gave up nearly 18 months ago...the only reason I gave up ...was cost..... before all the hooha about smoking in pubs... most work places Ive been in had no smoking policies .... I have been in places prior to the bans that did not allow smoking....as far as I see this is just an extension......you could not police smoking in public...there is too much of it.... my place of work now has a smoking ..bus stop .... its a smoking area outside...but its not public...

Personally when they realise they cant tax/exploit/vilify the smokers any more and live they will move to something else cars? ... drinking ( they've already started...)

Its an absolute joke i tell ya..

Dont smoke myself.. but may take them up on the offer.. as a protest..

However, dk should create a new subforum for smokers.. that way everyone is happy.. or chit chat could be deemed as a smoking area thus if you post in there is your problem??

There would be plenty of ways to avoid the law.. but it depends how corrupt the admins and mods are.. time will tell..

It is a joke, they rake in money from smokers every year. They don't want smokers to give up, because if they did they'd have to find something else to tax. Dug taking is illegal but they give out free needles to addicts - what else would the addicts need needles for but to inject drugs ffs. What next ban drinking anywhere except in a pub? Perhaps the breweries don't pay the government enough to do that yet.....
