They bought matrons back years ago and they're still there. Can't see what bringing them back has done apart from adding to the wage bill.

They may have brought the title Matron back but they've next to no power. Gone are the days when they could give those not up to the job a good bollocking or suspend them. Now it's bring the union rep in and explain why you've been harassing the shi@ nurse. A bit like the military. In the old days the SNCO was God. He ruled the roost and kept everyone inline. If someone wasn't up to the job they got a quick lesson and soon bucked up. Now the guy who's not up to the job accuses the SNCO of being a bully and the SNCO is moved to another job.

Well time has moved on and things have changed with it. That's how the world works, nothing really stays the same. There's a thing called employment rights nowadays and that can only be a good thing. Whether we like it or not that's here to stay. Robust screening should be the name of the game if they don't want to employ idiots, however it's not always fool proof either - though that's normally because screening is done by people who run through a form and tick boxes. It's not the fault of the people ticking the boxes, it's the fault of those who insisted the form had to be used and designed the content of the form. For that read NHS->DOH->Government.

Funny how it always tracks back to government policy and setting of the agenda. However the government insist on form filling and then complain that there's too much paperwork and form fillers, and then complain that the form isn't the right thing to do. They should try buttering their toast on all 3 sides as well....

Yes I should have said all 4 sides, though one of those also count's as 2 sides:

              Top side
              Bottom side
              Inside
              Outside

*shrug* do you lot never think outside the box, or are you stuck on the inside and can't see the outside?

Well that's the other side, or even offside and what about the backside ( no that's wrong that's where the nurse sticks the needle) on my side

Also forgot to bring up the fact that unless NHS Trusts get their staff immunised against flu they'll not get any of the winter funds that have been allocated. WTF is the logic in that? The government in the guise of the DOH are determined to make patients suffer by not allocating the funds if the Trust cannot force enough of it's staff to get an injection *shrug* stupid f**king idea.
