Toll roads the shape of things to come

The UK's first toll road in 10 years is necessary to "share the burden" of the ?1.5bn upgrade cost of the A14, the deputy prime minister has told the BBC.
The Highways Agency proposes to charge motorists on a stretch of the road in Cambridgeshire to fund improvements.
Hauliers said the lack of alternative routes meant they would effectively be forced to pay the toll.
Nick Clegg said: "You have to share the burden a little between taxpayers and people who actually use the road."

Asked about the additional cost to hauliers, some of whom have said a toll would add hundreds of thousands of pounds each year to their costs, Mr Clegg said: "I'm sure a haulier will also give you a calculation about how much they're losing because of delays on the A14.

BBC News - A14 toll would reduce taxpayer burden, says Nick Clegg

and so it starts, pay your road tax and pay extra to have new roads. What next, want your road sweeping, bins emptying, roads clearing in winter? have your credit card with you at all times. This country really has gone down the sh*thole with idiots like him in government. They'll make all alternative roads 20mph limit and a weight limit of 300lb, about the same weight as a fat Bassed MP

      Goes both ways.

My sister does more miles in a year than Justy22 wipes off his sales cars, but pays no road tax because her car is 'Eco Shite'

I pay ?220 a year for my tax and do a MAX of 3000 miles (OVER exagerate).

Recently here in M/C there was a section of road that was re newed and a peasant crossing installed that was not needed. Took two weeks to do, and must have had at least 10 thick people on site at all times.

One thick person's wages over the two weeks is more than the ?220 i paid, theres also new roads here there and every where.

Roads? in the UK they're more like pothole connections than roads. They may build new roads, they may even charge tolls to travel on them, but they don't seem to want to maintain them. Wonder whether they will charge by the mile or by the pothole? by the mile would be cheaper.
