    For Sale - Very Cheap

The government has given formal notice to the stock exchange that it plans to privatise the Royal Mail "in the coming weeks".
BBC business editor Robert Peston said he expected the sale to take place in November.
Employees will be given 10% of the shares, with the rest being offered to institutional investors and members of the public.
Unions have already threatened strike action over the privatisation.
The minimum amount members of the public can buy in shares will be ?750.
Free shares will be given to 150,000 UK-based Royal Mail employees, who will be able to apply for additional shares under an employee priority offer, with a minimum application of ?500.

BBC News - Royal Mail privatisation 'in the coming weeks'

Yes we're in sh*t, almost all manufacturing and those things you need to get out of a recession are gone (killed, or sold, by the last Tory government) and in true Tory style it's time to sell us something we already own, not only that but it'll be at a bargain price if you have the money. The money will no doubt get used for tax breaks shortly before the next election so that the can forget everything that's been going on and vote for them.

Anyone want to buy the UK, it'll be going cheap soon if it hasn't already been sold?

Sorry you clearly understand real life things than most on here.

So for people of lower intelligence, we liken the Post Office to say a Candy store.

The post office is owned by the goverment.

The goverment makes money out of the post office.

The goverment want to sell the post office to make more money as a one off.

So Mr Sing owns a Candy Store, he buys and sells Candy, buy low, sell high, he makes money.

Somebody comes along and buys Mr Sing's Candy store because Mr Sing want's to retire.

Fine with a Candy store, but how does it work with post orfice?

Should be something in the rules, saying no overseas oweneship.

It's a shame that they'll be selling off the post office tbh and the only losers in that will be the public.

The ability to deliver to a local collection point rather than to everyone's houses that was passed a while back will probably come into play. Much cheaper than employing postmen when you can get someone on minimum wage at Tesco to sort through the mail and put it behind the counter in the hope that someone turns up to pick it up. After all you'd certainly have great faith in someone on next to nothing not going through mail keeping the ones with credit cards, pin numbers and money in wouldn't you? Not that being on minimum wage means someone would steal anything, but it puts temptation there - postman have done it previously *shrug*

After all service improved when the utilities were sold off right? I still can't get a BT telephone or internet, or have any choice of a telephone or internet provider. Electricity and gas bills used to rise by 18% back when they were non profit making public companies? Water companies used to have leaks that bad we had droughts in parts of the UK every year right?

Selling the roads is the next one.... after all Tory supporting companies buy the shares *shrug*

For years the government has been moving goal posts & manipulating figures to make the PO look like it's on it's last legs. Their spin being that it needs a huge cash injection to improve services & compete in todays world.

So it now looks like the government is refusing to listen to the people, again, and force the sale through...no matter what.

Is it me, or are the governments of late been acting like this is a sell out of everything before judgement day comes & the world ends?

It's not just you, they all seem set on selling everything to make a fast buck, knowing that they won't have to live with the consequences. UK will be for sale next, perhaps Scotland will buy it

Gutted i missed out i wanted to buy some shares registered interest, then got email while away saying applications now being accepted online. Wouldnt let me do it as i was logged on outside UK. Missed out on a good deal there even quick sellers have made around 45% profit. I would have kept them

I think its only demand pushed it up i expect a big drop when they strike

Grandad made a good few quid years ago with gasboard shares he worked for them and bought some, dead now but me nanna still has them and they worth a pretty penny i think its now 3 companies, National grid, BG, and Centrica. They are due to come my way

Swings and roundabouts i expect they will drive RM profits right up now as they will increase prices, they have mail monopoly but at the same time letter mail is seriously declining. Parcels numbers are increasing but with pretty fierce competition from others so wont be able to increase it too much. They have assets which they may sell but even if they do they will still need sorting offices elsewhere

It should make a solid company, government still has a controlling stake atm so any profits or losses are still taxpayers

I've got to admit I was surprised at the increase in the cost of the shares. The company is surviving on the back of Government contracts which won't last many more years and it's processes are dated due to the Unions fighting to save jobs. The competition are years ahead. Maybe the money made will be used to modernise the service but I doubt it. Either way jobs will go as will a lot of property.

The money made will go to fund memory loss against the budget for the next election, I doubt it will be used for anything else useful. The price was always going to rise, I wonder how many MP's or MP's families bought shares tbh. I'd expect eventually that someone like DHL will buy a controlling interest. As for profits and losses that are made, the profits will be for the shareholders, the losses for the taxpayer. Lloyds shares are next on the list, to help fund the memory loss come election time.

                      ON TOPIC:-

So as it stands if your get caught breaking into a Post Box, you will find yourself in front of a Judge, before you can log onto DK with your iShit.

It's an offense to touch anything to do with the GERMAN royal family, so afterwards, can we go robbing?

Also rumor states, once privertised, the barcodes (?) on your post, is relevent to what the stuff is, not 100% sure, but bit like cookies said Vic in the pub, they know what your post is and sell your details to the relevent companys.

So if weere getting more junk mail, does that mean post office can drop price of post as there be rolling in dough from the spammers>?
