Potholes: 'One Every Mile' On Britain's Roads

There is a pothole for every mile of road in Britain, according to new research.

Official council data obtained under a Freedom of Information request show a 79% increase in compensation claims in the past financial year from motorists as a result of pothole damage.

Breakdown service Britannia Rescue also says the figures show that potholes measure 295 square miles (764 square km) in Britain - more than twice the size of the Isle of Wight.

It describes the situation as a "pothole epidemic" and claims that road maintenance in the UK is severely underfunded.

It says almost one in 10 people have suffered car damage as a result of poor road surfaces in the past 12 months.

Have we got rights to challenge this in court that we have suspended car road tax payments until roads are safe to drive?

The police stopped me the other night and Said "have you been drink sir because your all over the road" I said "no officer just avoiding all the potholes"...............

I am surprised but what you are saying because I thought this problem only excisted in South Africa--potholes as big as anything and has become a big big hassle here

This is not fair we got potholes closer than 1 mile apart some will soon join up ....probably to the size of isle of dogs.
This means someone has got no potholes at all!!!!

This is a big issue atm but.. i dont believe the councils around here arent doing enough.


At the moment the councils are painting the roads with black crap that is 1millimeter thick.. they mask the grids, seal them.. and paint this crap onto the roads and let cars drive on it instantly.. it looks a right mess..

Believe me when i say this but some people think this is ok.. but they trialed it on a road near us last year..now this road is all cracked in the very same place as it was before.. the pot holes are re appearing.. infact it seems they paint the potholes aswell.. ..

The underside of my van is caked in this shit tar stuff..

When we get snow.. as last year 10ft snow drifts that took a week to clear from the roads.. amazing!

kalipo mate, when it gets to zero deg, go fill them pot holes with boiling water, then when freeezes overnight and runis the road more, ring your local scumbag MP and ask them to investigate.

I've been trying to post pothole to my local MP I just can't seem to keep them in the envelope!
I dig the pothole up stuff it in the envelope, then when I look its empty
I think next I'll try posting the MP to the pothole... any ideas on how to stuff one of them in a envelope

I seem to have a good council. Most major roads are repaired or have the tar & grit treatment pretty quickly. There's been a load of work done around several of the towns in the area.

Guess they got sick of all the compensation claims for damage to cars suspension.
