Government Spent ?410,000 On Green Deal PR

The Government has spent more than ?410,000 on PR consultants to promote its Green Deal scheme, despite only 219 households having the work completed.

The ?413,815 marketing spend works out at ?1,889 for every household with the energy efficiency measures installed.

According to figures released to Sky News under the Freedom of Information Act, PR agency Freud was paid ?350,155 in 2012/13 and ?63,660 in the first eight months of 2013/14 to promote the policy.

Yet by the end of last month, only 1,173 households had committed to taking part - up from 954 in September - and the Green Deal had been implemented in only 219 properties.

Under the scheme, an assessment is carried out to calculate any savings a householder could make through energy efficiency.

The customer repays the costs of the work in the form of a loan paid for through increased energy bills.

Ministers claim the savings should cover the expense of the repayment.

Jonathan Reynolds, Labour's shadow minister for energy and climate change, said: "Ministers said the Green Deal would be the biggest home improvement scheme since the Second World War but so far installation work has only been completed on 219 properties.

"Consumers simply do not think that the Green Deal is a good deal, with concerns about hidden costs and high interest rates regularly being cited as issues that are deterring people from signing up.

Well it was never going to be a hit really was it. You have to have a consultation, which isn't cheap, then you pay for it for through increased energy bills, but only if it saves you money on your energy bills... if it's not going to save you money, so that they can increase your energy bills then they won't lend you it. That's from memory, I can't be bothered to read the rubbish again.

?1 spent on PR and ?409,999 spent on paying a consultant (a government donor most likely) to design the leaflet

What can we do to save the planet when some cities in world has dirtier air being inhailed than the modern car engine kicks out the exhaust pipe

Wouldn't put it in a bank to save it anyway, we'd end up paying for it 30 times

The issue I have with this really is that in the UK we're being taxed to death under the umbrella of 'green taxation' to encourage is to cut down on energy use, but the rest of the world isn't taxed and isn't cutting down anything like the UK. So I there are 2 questions

              1) Why are we being taxed so much, and where is the money going? Certainly not to the energy companies, since we're paying higher bills to subsidise wind farms that are being paid not to run. The income from fuel duty (petrol/diesel) isn't being used by teh government to develop clean cars. Electric and Hydrogen cars aren't green - electricity is generated from gas/coal powered generating stations and hydrogen requires large amounts of electricity to extract. So utter bollox. The amount of taxation being collected is nothing like the pittance being spent. So where is it and why?

              2) Why are we trying to save the earth when other countries aren't? One sided effort with the people of those countries making the attempt being more than offset by those that don't give a ck. Those that don't keep on increasing so anything we're saving isn't. Basically we're not polluting so that the rest of teh world can increase *shrug*

The earth will be here long after we're gone and won't give a ck. It will balance itself out later.

That an I forgot to say that the scientists are full of sh*t on climate change. We get a hot summer, it's down to climate change caused by man. We get a cold winter, ah well that's just something that is a side affect and isn't material. Hottest summer in 50 years? means it was hotter 51 years ago then, surely

Probably fitted a new engine, new rolling chassis/bodyshell, new wheels, new brakes, new tyres, new electrics and new interior. Always does the trick, and keeps the old car on the road.................
