The promise of lower premiums again...

A new system that will allow insurers to access DVLA data on drivers' convictions and penalty points will be tested from February.
The insurance industry says the move will cut the amount of fraud seen under the current system of driver declaration.
Up to 23% of motorists failed to accurately disclose their record to insurers, it has claimed.
Drivers will want to ensure that the new system will lead to lower premiums.

It argued that the fraud, and complex claims that were subsequently generated, increased premiums for honest drivers, so the new scheme should cut costs.

Car insurance premiums in the UK have hit a record high, partly because cars' increasingly complex electronics have made repairs more expensive.
The average annual comprehensive policy cost ?462 in the last three months of 2016, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
Previously the highest figure was ?443 in the spring of 2012.
The rise comes in spite of government attempts to limit compensation payments and cut court costs.
One reason for the increase is a rise in the cost of repairing cars that have been in accidents, because of their increasingly sophisticated electronics.
Buying in spare parts is also getting more expensive, due to the weakness of sterling.

Complex technology making repairs more expensive is contributing to the rise, insurers say.

So the promise of cheaper insurance didn't really eman it would be cheaper. Usual con job from insurance companies.

However, the government is currently consulting on plans to cap compensation payments to accident victims, which it says could reduce annual premiums by ?40 a year.
So premiums will be rising again by a minimum of ?40 a year then.
