Autumn Statement 2013: Tax discs on car to disappear

Tax discs displayed on car windscreens, a staple of British motoring for almost a century, are to disappear, George Osborne will announce in his Autumn Statement.

Instead of displaying a disc to prove that a car is fully taxed, motorists will instead register their car online.

Traffic cameras will then automatically track vehicles on the road and identify those that are not registered for road tax.

The change is part of the trend to provide paperless services, a drive that has already.

    Code:

    what a fo*oking cock

you get a car in, you can/can't see if it's taxed, somebody you don't like, you keep an eye on their disc and report it, what a total cock, if computer gets jump started and irt forgets your buggered, does that mean cost comes down?

    OFF TOPIC:-

Sometime ago bloke got rid of his car, sorn scrapped etc, got letter off dvla, "thankssss for letting us know"

then few months later out the blue pinned up the wall for not telling them he got rid of it, he found the letter Tweeted it back and no problem, but if he had binned the latter, insert coin, your in the wron

      ON TOPIC:-

UNconfirmed rumor when you get a parking ticket the Gesparpo Tweet a photograph of the taxdisc which they can trace by the number at the top or the barcode to your address.

The idea is if you get a ticket they have proof it's your vehicle not a cloned number plate.

This system already exists & is used all over the country. It's called ANPR. A bit of paper in the windscreen is only for visual inspection.
I didn't see or have yet to read anything about this autumn statement. But this story sounds very cuckoo.

you really are in a different world aren't you i don't know of any of these cost saving ideas that have ever bought the cost down to the 'customer' even the energy con of the last few days is paid for by the taxpayer. Taxpayer should be redefined as someone who pays the profits of private companies and is expected to say thanks to the government for the pleasure.
