On topic: this is incredible. If the global population really almost tripled since the 50's then humanity is in deep s***. What makes me angry is that though this is a fact people seem to ignore it....especially politicians in my country. All I hear is that they keep yammering about population decreasing in our country, and that the govt. is supporting families and encouraging them to have more and more children. I mean WTF are they talking about?! Just because the population is decreasing here doesn't mean people turn to dust, they just immigrate! They don't disappear. It won't make it less humans on Earth...but yet we are encouraged to breed more and more...
It's like when a parent is walking down the supermarket aisles with their youngster who keeps pointing at some sweets and crying until the parent gives in and buys them, and does so every time the kid starts crying for sweets, and grows fat eventually. That won't make him/her a good parent, just because he/she does what the child wants...
I mean wanting to have kids is a natural urge, but we have to think for our future too...not only for the present.

Apparently, Loch Ness is so big that the entire world's population could fit inside it three times over. That puts it into perspective - Loch Ness is big but you have to zoom in a bit to be able to see it on Google maps.
