    Change the law to suit

Landowners in the Sussex Downs National Park are mounting a "legal blockade" to block a potential fracking site. Solicitors for residents near Fernhurst, in West Sussex, have written to Celtique Energie and the Energy Secretary Ed Davey to explicitly deny permission to drill under their land. Plans to frack were vehemently opposed in Balcombe, also in Sussex, last year.
Fracking is a method of extracting energy, such as shale gas, from rocks by forcing it out under high pressure.

    Meanwhile
It comes after the government said it may alter trespass law to make drilling under property easier for companies.
So trespassing is ok if you're a company, in the eyes of the government? I hope they're fair about it and allow me to dig under any bank vault that I may be passing.

The Department of Energy and Climate Change has said it is reviewing whether this existing route is "fit for purpose" due to concerns that fracking for shale gas could be held back by lengthy and costly court proceedings.
That would be costly for companies then, keep it cheap and change the law to suit companies, doesn't matter what the people who own the land think. Doesn't matter if it pollutes water etc, that's something they'll ignore anyway. People and lives are cheap, money and profit is all that matters in the game to make it rich. If you can't persaude people with good sound reasoning, change the law and ignore them. *shrug*

According to the governments own information little or nothing will be saved on energy bills for the people of the UK from the extraction. Seems it's profits all the way.

Lol, and what would the name be of your "digging under a bank vault" company? Bank robbers inc.? XD

To be on topic, I understand your point. But that's the way of the world nowadays...you got the money you got the power. Everything is for sale...property, law, people...whatever you want.

Sadly if it wasn't for all Governments doing dodgy deals the country would be up the creak. Almost all the things people complain about are the things that pay for the NHS and Welfare. Currently about 48% of the UK GDP is from oil which we keep hearing will run out, it's got to be replaced from somewhere. That's 48% taking into consideration previous governments have sold it off and live from taxes. Banking another hated figure contributes between 8% and 14%.

and I'm a firm believer in not f**king up this country and turning large parts of it into inhospitable wasteland for the sake of profiteering companies. I'd take the long term view which is around "they who have it last have it the longest", in other words let other people f**k up their countries, use their resources that they're stupid enough to sell until they have no more. At that point when there is none left we can 'drill' for ours and charge wtf we want, because we're the only ones who'll have it

Knowing how companies will lie and manipulate to take what they want (and governments help them) I'd prefer to see all of the safety and environmental aspects covered and set in stone first, rather than live with the consequences afterwards. At the end of the day it will not be the shareholders or MP's who will have to live with the consequences of their mistakes as usual.

Then only problem with us saving our resources until others have used theirs up is by that time we will have an Army of 10 to defend the stuff. Foreign powers will fund the loony left and encourage civil unrest then step in and take it. China isn't building the most Aircraft Carriers in World to go cruising, unless I'm mistaken.

Good point, I look out of my window and look at the moors and see brown, barron land.. and pretty white wind turbines spinning round when its nice weather and the latter when its windy..

I saw a funny picture one day, basically it time lined what would happen over the years in respect of fracking.. companies like , BMW and the likes would move to the UK because of the wealth ..

As im not in a fracking area YET, im not convinced either way!..

But if it does it will be "frack off tory scum"

It would be interesting to compare the possible outcome of fracking on peoples health, knowing that every man and his dog will be on top of the companies to ensure there's no polution against the deadly chemicals some of those on the TV demonstrating against it were putting in their bodies by smoking.

There will be minimum, if any, legislation to protect people though, it's not people that matter the most, it's the money. Basically the government want it to happen, and they'll manipulate the law to ensure it does happen. Nuclear power stations are safe, how many do you see in No. 9 or No. 12 Downing Street? How many anywhere close to London?

Dave has already said it will lower peoples fuel bills, contradicted by George who says there won't be much if anything in it to save anyone on fuel bills, but it will be good for the economy, companies and government revenues. Doesn't matter that the companies pollute the land we live and rely on really does it, long as it pulls the government out of the sh*t and makes for a healthy profit on which to avoid paying tax. Almost forgot to add that's why they're offering councils money to allow fracking - they certainly aren't doing it out of the goodness of their hearts. Cutting with one hand and giving with the other with strings attached.

Might be worth asking for the next council elections? Do you support fracking regardless of any health risks it may pose now or in the future and then make your decision on who to vote for.

and Meaty, it's not just water and sand that they use in the fluid they pour in. I'd also like to know what they plan to do with the fluid afterwards and who will pick up the bill for removing the carcinogenic substances from it. Even when that's done will Dave and do use that instead of Perrier?
