Beach babe TV hit Baywatch to be movie comedy
AS the theme tune goes, some people stand in the darkness, afraid to step into the light. But not David Hasselhoff . . . he's up for starring in a big-screen version of BAYWATCH.
Yes, the cheesy 90s TV series is returning - but as a mega-budget COMEDY film.
And original star Hoff has told studio bosses he is "100 per cent on board" and will "clear his schedule" for a high-profile cameo role.

Pamela Anderson, 42, Erika Eleniak, 39, and Yasmine Bleeth, 41 - some of the show's famous busty babes - are also desperate to be in the movie of the series, which had 1.1 BILLION worldwide viewers at its peak. But they are all too old to play their characters, because the film will be set before the series - when the gang were training to be LA lifeguards.
Hasselhoff, 56, is angling to play the DAD of his original character Mitch. Meanwhile Transformers star Shia LaBeouf, Twilight hunk Robert Pattinson and Star Trek's new Captain Kirk Chris Pine are all being tipped as the new Mitch. Megan Fox is favourite to be Pamela Anderson's character CJ Parker.
Studio Paramount has hired Jeremy Garelick - who penned Jennifer Aniston romcom The Break-Up - to write and direct the film. It is due in cinemas in the summer of 2011 and likely to be in the same vein as Police Academy. A studio source told News of the World: "All of the original cast are super-excited.
"When Baywatch was at the height of its powers they were global superstars. This could be their chance to re-live that - they don't want to miss out."
The source added that Paramount is hoping to capture audiences' imaginations in the same way its Star Trek reboot did earlier this year.
It's Baywatch, Jim, but not as we know it...
