German Chancellor Angela Merkel is proposing building up a European communications network to help improve data protection.

It would avoid emails and other data automatically passing through the United States. In her weekly podcast, she said she would raise the issue on Wednesday with French President Francois Hollande.
Revelations of mass surveillance by the US National Security Agency (NSA) have prompted huge concern in Europe. Disclosures by the US whistleblower Edward Snowden suggested even the mobile phones of US allies, such as Mrs Merkel, had been monitored by American spies.

It would also make it very easy for European governments to spy on it's citizens as well *shrug*

There was no doubt that Europe had to do more in the realm of data protection, she said.

Like read everyone's emails before they pass the information onto the US. I'd trust none of the ckers tbh.

why not just use an intelligent word gilter that deletes emails that mention INFERIOR sites.

I seem to recall many years ago that the French would not allow anything more, than was it, 64 bit encryption on computers in France. The reason being that their spy agency couldn't decrypt it. Perhaps now they just kick in doors and just steal the computers instead The UK has been intercepting communications around Europe and sharing it with North America and Australia for years. Why do the Germans think that having an EU network would make this go away?

That's ok, as long as the UK remains any part of any network we will pass information straight over to the US. That would be the US who declared that since the cold war was over that it's not only national secret information they are seeking but industrial information so that US companies can be given that info and copy the ideas. People wonder why people no longer develop ideas in the UK?
