    Quicker to walk soon

Speed limits on many rural roads in England could be cut from 60mph to 40mph under government proposals.
The reduction should be considered by councils on roads with "many bends or junctions", the Department for Transport (DfT) says in draft guidance.
Some 49% of road deaths in 2010 in the UK took place on single carriageway rural roads with a 60mph speed limit.

A reduction to 50mph would be considered for "lower quality A and B roads" with "a relatively high number" of bends or junctions and where mean speeds are already below 50mph.
DfT figures for 2010 show that 68% of road

BBC News - Speed limits: 40mph plan for country roads

They're all low quality roads because they won't spend tax they take form the motorist on cking repairing them. Not to mention that they can put more speed cameras on them to catch people and tax them more...

That would cost money, cameras make money - not difficult to see which option will be taken really is it.
Origin of car tax: Commons in 1888

Chancellor George Goschen: Apart from the Carriage Tax, which is a tax mainly on the more luxurious carriages - carriages, used for pleasure - there is at present no tax on any other vehicles, however much they may destroy the roads.
We propose to put a duty of ?1 a-year upon every vehicle exceeding 10 cwt. in weight, a very moderate limit to take.
Members will acknowledge that the principle that all those who use the roads should pay for them, and should pay in some proportion to the wear and tear that they cause, is just. But I have not yet exhausted the subject. We propose, also, to put a very small Wheel Tax upon every vehicle.
Colonel Nolan, MP for Galway North: Not on carts?
Chancellor Goschen: Yes. We propose a duty of 2s. 6d. per wheel upon all carts over 2 cwt.
      Colonel Nolan: Oh!

      So what happened to cycles?

I meant what happened to taxing them, as per the above introduction of road tax. As for the other, natural selection when jumping red lights, or just plain ignoring them, will get rid of those with a death wish.

                      That would be to drive

                      While smoking
                      While thinking about smoking
                      While thinking about speeding
While burning a so called fossil fuel
While not paying for speeding tickets that you might get in the future
While not paying parking fines that aren't legal
While not generally paying through the nose for being a motorist
For having the imagination to think that out of all the taxes you pay as a motorist some should be spent on repairing the roads

I'm sure more people can add to the list

Just installed the Android app MendMyPothole which photographs, uses GPS to locate the hole and report it to the local council. It will probably add 2 hours to my fist trip out of teh city just taking photos before the council start blocking my email address
