Benefits Crackdown: UK Unemployed will Have to Prepare CV Before Job Interviews, says

UK jobseekers will have to make more of an effort to receive out of work benefits under new rules being prepared by the government.

The requirements will mean unemployed people will have to prepare a CV, set up an email address and register on the government's jobs website before their first interview with a Jobcentre Plus adviser.

The government claimed the move, which comes into effect from 28 April, means people start their Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA) claim ready to look for work and show they are serious about finding a job as quickly as possible.

All new JSA claimants will also now have a quarterly review with their adviser, where they will review their progress and job goals to identify what more they can do to move into work.

Employment Minister Esther McVey hailed the new guidelines as a "fundamental shift" in expectations.

At last, an idea that's targeted at the lazy 'claiming JSA is my career' smack-rats.

As far as I'm aware every school/college student has a CV by the time they leave education. People in job's all have CV's. The only people who don't are either self employed, been in very long term work & need to update their CV. Or a smack-rat with no intentions of finding work.

Why can't we just shoot them up with heroin laced with LD50?

Great and those without internet or access to it on a daily basis will have emails delivered by the postman and CV's written by secretaries dictated over the phone. The new scheme obviously assumes that everyone on benefit has the money to buy a computer and pay for internet access, or are we to pay for those as well?

I see we posted at the same time Meaty I just think it's getting out of hand now really with this so called crackdown. It isn't a crackdown really it's just a way of stopping people claiming what they may have paid for. I seem to recall George's comments last week about full employment and that he didn't count people between jobs as being unemployed. If that's not the definition of being unemployed WTF is??????????

Just to be clear - the majority of the DWP's budget is *not* spent on unemployment benefit or whatever it's called. Most is spent on pensions and additional benefits for those in job on minimum wage. Since we can't kill of the pensioners then the best way to really cut the bill is to raise the minimum wage to an amount where a) It can be lived on without benefit top ups b) It means taxpayers aren't subsidising companies to underpay people.

There's a spreadsheet on this link:

that outlines the money spent by DWP over the years, so you can check it out yourself. Who's fooling who here?

Access to a PC with internet access is provided by the Job Centre, at the Job Centre or an outsourced Mickey Mouse company. But people do get 3 days training at the same time...if they need it.
Not sure about this, but... My partners eldest was given work experiance in a job centre as part of his JSA claim. He was giving IT support to the dumb smack-rats on the computers.
He's off to uni in september... the lazy bum.

This has came up time & time again, and I won't argue against it. The unemployed and sick make up a small fraction of the total spend. But this is the group that's always targeted. Most of the time in a way that punishes those who really need the help while the smack-rat's who need shipping off to a desert island don't get touched.

House of Commons and Downing Street are both pork pie factories. Take your pick.

I'd like to see some of the CV's. Qualification: none, Work experience: none, Skills: Level 3 on a computer game, Hobbies: smoking pot, fighting and watching football. Family: I think I've got a few kids spread around.

I have never had a CV and I have never found them at all useful when interviewing people for jobs either. A blow your own trumpet document says nothing about what a person can do, it does tell you how good their mates/parents/girlfriend/boyfriend are at English and that is about all.

I have never found any way to separate "can do" from "can't do" from a CV or even in an interview at all and have made some right cock ups employing people that were just a complete waste of space.

It's not supposed to do that. It's supposed to give people the ability to make a decision on who to interview. You're right though, I have had people lie to me in inteviews and be sacked later for it when I find out how sh*t they are. Wste of cking time and money.

No it's a result of not putting puffs in a sack at birth and leaving them out for the milkman next to a bucket of water.
