Motorist fined ?100 for parking inches outside space - in empty car park

A motorist is fuming after being fined ?100 for parking a few inches outside of a space - in a deserted car park.

Peter Barr, 61, paid a visit to the set of his favourite TV show, Doc Martin, in Port Isaac, Cornwall.

He found the local car park virtually empty and paid ?3 to leave his Mercedes for several hours while he wandered around the pretty fishing village.

But he and his wife Jill returned to find their 4x4 had been slapped with a ?100 ticket - because its wheels had crept eight inches into the empty neighbouring car park bay.

Peter says the fine is 'absurd' because just four other cars were parked in the lot at the time, leaving 95 empty spaces.

However, car park operator AS Parking is refusing to overturn the charge, insisting that its agent was right to issue the penalty last Thursday afternoon.

Peter, a retired bank worker, says he's only prepared to pay for a second ticket - to cover the space he encroached upon.

He said: 'I'm quite prepared to pay them ?3 for parking in the second bay but they don't allow any right of appeal for anything other than exceptional circumstances.

'This is absurd. They basically write their own rules and laws.'

I think he should be fined. Look at the facts... He's old, drives a Merc & doesn't know how to park correctly. Doesn't that fit into the 'shouldn't be on the road' category?

How many times have you been driving around a carpark, see a space, only to find that the arse wipe driver has crept into the empty space making it impossible to use?

Now I normally park next to them with my passenger side so close that neither mine or the offending car doors can be opened. I really like doing this to the drivers door.

Well you could keep paying the fines on the basis of not guilty its your money.
Look we all have to agree with terms and conditions provided you agree for reasons not specified when there is no yellow submarine, you need to visit the spec savers chuk.

Call your network & ask for an IMEI check against the black list.

It doesn't matter if it's one of their phones or not, all black listings are shared between the networks.

They will only tell you if it's blocked or not. They can't give any other information to you.

Agree that if theres ALL that space then there is no excuse not to park correctly, different if neighbouring cars are parked over the line and you cannot part correctly due to this. Fine should be upheld in my opinion in this case....

Similar to an old bloke at a petrol garage using pump next to me.. Got out of car bumped his car door onto mine. Thought old boy maybe lost control of door getting out. Walked around and he was leaning on it getting out. Said its touching my car he said no its not.. I have been to hundreds of parking places were the parking lanes are clearly visible; the reason behind not marking lines clearly is the catch behind to get as much revenue from drivers as possible.
