Deadly Asian hornets could be heading to Britain

Swarms of deadly Asian hornets which have already killed six in France could be on their way to Britain, experts have warned.

Southern parts of England are likely to be among the first hit by the invasive non-native species, who may be able to cross the channel from France, where the hornets first arrived in 2005 and are spreading ?rapidly?.

The hornets could arrive soon, according to the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee (ECA) report on invasive, non-native species.

Vespa Velutina queens are typically up to 30mm long, whereas worker bees grow up to 25mm. They have an entirely dark brown or black velvety body, bordered with a fine yellow band.

The hornets have a toxic sting which can potentially cause anaphylactic shock and kidney failure. The ?highly aggressive? hornets are a predatory species and pose a significant threat to other native bees, wasps and pollinators.

The ECA report discussed the Asian hornet as part of a new blacklist of invasive alien species being drawn up in order to limit environmental and ecological damage across Europe.

Not terrorist hornets then? The clue being they don't have dynamite strapped to their backs. Perhaps the immigration office will stop them at the border, appears to have worked for the massive influx of Romanians and Bulgarians that the so called news media, and many conservatives, predicted for 1st January and failed to appear. It's all well and good drawing up a blacklist, but can the hornets read the "Do not come to the UK" notice? *shrug*

Ah!! We could hold them in detention, treat them, then let them have a good look around the island, come to think about how many they killed in Asia.

Seems that it's normal for about 40 a year to die from their stings in Aisa (must make a massive dent in the population over there), less than the number of people who die from hunger on a daily basis. Sounds like the papers etc are bored, the NSS need grants and I dare say some drugs company will be selling the government 5 million unneeded antidotes by close of play tomorrow. Maybe they could hand out all the tamiflu that was stockpiled on the back of the last media 'scare' and drugs company sales to the government with our money. Did we ever get a refund on that?

Panic over. Read somewhere that they're heading for Bristol, that means they'll get stuck on the M4 in a traffic jam and die of boredom before they get anywhere near

The Immigration figures are provided by ONS (Office for National Statistics) who compose the figures by means of the International Passenger Survey (IPS) - a voluntary sample survey of passengers travelling via the principal airports, sea routes and the Channel Tunnel. Not all ports of entry are covered.
It also excludes land routes between Ireland and the UK. Ireland is part of a common travel area with the UK and there is no survey of people crossing the border between the Republic and Northern Ireland.
And at present it does not cover the airports used by budget airlines, nor coach travellers !!!!
This makes it particularly inaccurate in respect of East Europeans, so the "massive influx of Romanians and Bulgarians " failed to appear because they were not looking at the methods by which those Eastern Europeans were most likely to use.

Tunneling in or parachuting no doubt.

New figures showed there were 407,000 non-UK nationals receiving the hand-outs last year. then you read this:

The new benefit claimant figures also showed there were 102,000 claimants from Africa last year and 132,000 from Asia and the Middle East.
European claimants - including eastern European nationals - made up the largest group, at nearly 139,000.

Number of foreign nationals on benefits soars to 400,000 - Telegraph

                      So
242,000 from outside the EU, more than 50% of those claiming aren't even from the EU. So leaving the EU wouldn't stop this.
                      139,000 from the EU
Unsure where the other 26,000 are from, maybe Mars? This is the Telegraph after all

Anyway, anyone can twist statistics and make them look like fact provided they don't have to back them up. *shrug*

I just hope the hornets decide to stay in Bristol, get jobs and pay tax like they should do
